Hamakom mission and core activities: the name of our organization comes from the famous story in torah in which jacob awoke from his dream of a ladder reaching from earth to heaven, and exclaims: "ma nora hamakom hazeh how awesome is this place god is in this place, and i didn't even know it hamakom is not a "place" in the physical sense - we gather in people's homes, in synagogues, out in nature, and in many locations. Rather than a particular physical place, the name hamakom is symbolic of all places where jews seek spiritual nourishment and awareness. Hamakom is an inclusive, warm, and inviting gathering "place" for exploring judaism as a spiritual path - a path that offers greater connection to our own hearts and souls, to each other, to the jewish tradition, and to an awareness of god's presence in the world and in our lives.
