CharitySense provides nonprofit research, IRS Form 990 data, charity search tools, analytics, and related API services through our websites and data tools, including charitysense.com and data.charitysense.com. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect and how we use it.
CharitySense is designed to collect minimal information. When you use the websites, search tools, or APIs, we may collect: IP address; anonymized search queries; API endpoint called; timestamp; response status; basic technical logs needed for security, reliability, debugging, and quality improvement. We do not require user accounts to use the public data tools and do not intentionally collect names, payment information, donor information, or account credentials.
To operate CharitySense, improve search quality, understand which queries return useful or poor results, debug errors, monitor uptime and performance, prevent abuse / scraping / spam / fraud, improve the accuracy of CharitySense data tools, and respond to direct email inquiries. We do not use search queries to identify individual users.
CharitySense uses public nonprofit data — IRS Form 990 filings and other public nonprofit information — to create nonprofit profiles, search results, metrics, ratings, and research tools. This may include organization names, addresses, missions, officers, directors, compensation, governance, and financial information disclosed in public filings.
We may store anonymized search queries to improve search quality and recommendations. We do not use them to build individual user profiles.
Collected for security, abuse prevention, debugging, reliability, and performance monitoring. Used to detect suspicious activity, rate-limit abuse, investigate technical problems, and protect the service.
CharitySense does not use advertising cookies or third-party ad tracking for the public data tools. Any future analytics or necessary cookies will be for site performance and UX, not advertising profiles.
We do not sell personal information. We may share limited technical information with service providers (hosting, infrastructure, logging, security, analytics) used to operate and secure the service. We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect CharitySense, users, nonprofits, or the public from abuse, fraud, attacks, or security threats.
CharitySense may link to charity websites, donation pages, payment processors, reports, or other third-party resources. We do not control those third parties; their privacy practices apply once you leave CharitySense. CharitySense does not process donations or store payment card information.
IP addresses and technical logs are retained only as long as reasonably necessary for security, debugging, reliability, abuse prevention, and service improvement. Anonymized and aggregated search analytics may be retained longer to improve CharitySense quality. Public nonprofit records may be retained indefinitely as part of the transparency dataset.
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the limited information we collect. No website, API, or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure.
Because CharitySense does not require accounts, we usually cannot identify a specific user from anonymized queries. If you contact us directly and provide personal information, you may request review, correction, or deletion by emailing mazhar@charitysense.com.
CharitySense is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.
We may update this policy from time to time; the updated version will be posted with a new "Last updated" date.
