IRS 990 Nonprofit Profile
Children's Book Project
Organization mission: the children's book project gives free books to children who need them, and free literacy resources and programs to the educators and organizations who serve them, to promote literacy and learning, and improve life outcomes by providing access to books and creating reading-rich environments. our work is based on the research that children who grow up with books have better academic and life outcomes than their peers who don't, and that reading aloud to children from birth benefits critical brain development. many children have few or no books of their own and attend schools and programs in which quality books are in short supply; encouraging reading is not enough when families do not have access to books. the children's book project provides the access that many children lack by supplying free books and creating reading-rich environments. we provide the resources to inspire new generations of lifelong readers in partnership with educators and community members who support the education, literacy, health, housing needs, and cognitive development of children (ages 0-18) from low-income, marginalized, and at-risk communities.
