Shiftworks envisions a region in which the creative practices of artists are fully engaged to collaboratively shape the public realm and catalyze community-led change. shiftworks builds capacity for this work through civically engaged public art, artist resources, public programming, and technical assistance. shiftworks was orginally established in 2005 as a fiscally-sponsored program at the greater pittsburgh arts council. the organization was awarded 501(c)(3) status in 2023, and transitioned to a wholly independent organization in january 2024. the organization was renamed "shiftworks community and public arts" as part of the transition. shiftworks staff members were employed by the greater pittsburgh arts council through december 31, 2023 and became employees of shiftworks as of january 1, 2024.
