Founded by Henrietta??s grandson, Alfred Lacks Carter, Jr. to provide equitable opportunities in Baltimore for marginalized men and women in the very community Henrietta raised her children. Henrietta Lacks House of Healing collaborated as the fiscal sponsor of The Lacks Family-led HELA100 to honor her 100th birthday on August 1, 2020. In 2021, in honor of Henrietta??s 101st birthday, The Lacks Family advanced HELA100: The Henrietta Lacks Initiative to commemorate 70 years sinceher HeLa cells changed the world and her untimely death on October 4, 1951. Today,HELA100 continues on to educate future generations on the impact of her HeLa cells while advancing health equity and social justice through arts, advocacy,education and science.
