What it reported doing in 2024

During the 2024 fiscal year, the latina/o bar association of Washington continued to support its mission to promote, support, and serve both Washington's current and future latina/o legal professionals and the broader latina/o community by (i) offering professional development opportunities to grow members' expertise and networks for career advancement, (ii) leveraging legal and advocacy skills to assist community members and issues which impact the latina/o community, and (iii) providing opportunities to promote mentorship, scholarship assistance, enhanced connectedness, and cultural celebration. Our activities included: scholarships-awarded $15,000 in scholarships to students.professional development-sponsored and co-hosted the 2024 Washington law student employment retreat which featured panel discussions, mock interviews, resume reviews, a job fair, and professional headshots for diverse, marginalized, and underrepresented law students.-lbaw board members served on various panels at the Washington state bar association small town and rural practice inaugural summit at gonzaga university school of law.-hosted a free cle on the privacy rule provisions of the health information portability and accountability act (hipaa).-hosted a panel discussion during hispanic heritage month called alternative pathways in the law" where legal professionals, including past board members, shared about the journeys that have shaped their careers at seattle university school of law.-hosted a panel discussion at the university of Washington school of law in partnership with the student groups, first generation law students and the latina/o law student association, regarding the realities of practicing law in today's legal climate.clinics and judicial evaluations-hosted a total of 14 legal clinics, including: (i) monthly free legal clinics throughout the greater seattle area, providing assistance on various areas of the law, including immigration, family law, auto accidents, personal injury, worker's rights / wage claims, and criminal law; (ii) a free legal clinic in spokane, Washington in partnership with latinos en spokane, poder legal, and the volunteer lawyers program; and (iii) free legal clinics in wenatchee and granger, Washington.-conducted monthly judicial evaluation interviews amounting to about 24 judicial evaluations.mentorship opportunities-co-hosted a law student mixer in spokane, Washington with the gonzaga university school of law's latina/o law student association, pridelaw, and university of Idaho llc & outlaw.-sponsored and co-hosted the 2nd annual minority law student mixer with other minority bars.-sponsored and co-hosted a fall social paint and sip event with gonzaga university school of law's latina/o law student association.-met with latinx law student association students at seattle university school of law, university of Washington school of law, and gonzaga university school of law.community events-hosted 31st annual fundraiser gala where we awarded student scholarships and community member awards.-hosted 2nd annual 5k fundraiser.-hosted a wine tasting social for lbaw members in eastern Washington.-attended the Washington state bar association foundation's celebration of latino culture and heritage at the feria viva latinoamerica festival in lake forest park, Washington.-sponsored and attended a summer picnic with other minority bar associations.-hosted a bowling night during hispanic heritage month for lbaw members.-attended the asian bar association annual fundraiser gala.-attended the el centro de la raza annual fundraiser gala.-hosted annual membership meeting and holiday party.
