Volunteers in medicine clinic serves the health and wellness needs of the medically indigent in martin county, florida. this is accomplished through the efforts of volunteer medical personnel, working in concert with available medical resources and with the support of the community. over 100 volunteers including physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses and lay personnel give their time and expertise to provide care at no charge for adults earning below 200% of the federal poverty level and legally residing in martin county, fl. nurse practitioners including a specialist in psychiatry, social worker, nurse, medical assistant and administative staff make up the paid staff. the medical director is a volunteer. in addition to primary care, specialty clinics include allergy, dermatology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, podiatry, plastic surgery, social work, and urology. care from specialist in the community also include oncology, surgery and more. one major partner, martin health system, absorbs the cost for laboratory, diagnostic, ancillary services, in-patient and out-patient procedures. medications are provided at no charge through pharmaceutical company indigent programs.
