IRS 990 Nonprofit Profile
Boggs Mountain Humane Shelter
The first half of 2012 was the most successful six months in the organization's history. Dog and cat lives saved exceeded 1000 and fundraising looked to achieve a new record. In july 2012, a disgruntled employee contacted a local news organization. The resulting investigation and misinformation caused the public to doubt bmhs's ability to continue operations successfully. The shelter was closed on july 18, 2012 and does not plan to reopen. A new nonprofit humane shelter formed in october 2012 to support the service area of bmhs. After successful negotiations with rabun paws 4 life, inc., the board of directors of bmhs voted to lease at very favorable rates all the physical (building, building improvements, outbuilding, and van) to rabun paws 4 life, inc. Until the building could be sold. Substantial cash assets were also turned over to the new organization. Rabun county purchased the building in 2015 and all remaining assets were transferred to rabun paws 4 life, inc.
