Education, research & preservation of the rain forest in the last year rainforestry has carried out it goals in the following ways through its selva tica project in costa rica. Preservation of rainforest has been achieved by protecting the rainforest property (known as selva tica), which is wholly owned by rainforestry, in the sarapiqui province of costa rica at 500-700 meters on the caribbean slope of volcan barva. The property is approximately 80% primary forest which is becoming increasingly rare in costa rica and in the rest of central america. Research done on the site this year includes a continuing compilation of a digital herbarium, a wide range of projects conducted by students from the gainesville state college who visited the site for several days of educational classes and a tropical experience. The site is used annually by ornithologists as a base camp for the audubon christmas bird count extending from the arctic circle to panama. The sarapiqui count includes the selvatic
