Big brothers big sisters has been the nation's leading youth mentoring program since its formation in 1904. With over 350 affiliates nationwide, big brothers big sisters continues to deliver quality services to families in need. The program has undergone evaluation by independent organizations such as public private ventures. Repeatedly, big brothers big sisters has raised the bar in standards for youth mentoring services. In 1975, big brothers of ulster county and big sisters of ulster county merged to form the organization we know today as big brothers big sisters of ulster county. The organization received its 501c3 status in december of 1977. Since then thousands of children have benefited from having an adult mentor in their life. The programs offered serve children from ages 4 up to the child's 18th birthday. Children are typically from a single parent home or are being raised by a relative due to parental abandonment, parental incarceration, parental abuse/neglect
