Established on 2002, the congregation of the dominican sisters of wanganui (sisters) under the protection of our lady of the most holy rosary and saint catherine of siena began humbly enough in wanganui, new zealand. the congregation has a proud history and traces its ancestry back to the first convent founded by st dominic, as the result of a sign from god, at proullie in southern france in 1206. throughout the years, the foundations of the organization expanded to south africa, the united states, and dunedin, new zealand. it is from the dunedin foundation that the dominican sisters of wanganui come.Dominican sisters have a worldwide presence spreading the word of god and teaching within their communities. the dominican sisters of wanganui teach at st. anthony's primary school and st. dominic's college at wanganui and at st. thomas aquinas college at tynong. in addition, the sisters in wanganui run camps and take care of confraternities.
