The primary mission and activities of solar tompkins inc are to support the communities in tompkins and chemung counties and immediately surrounding areas in transition from fossil fuel systems by relying on renewably generated electricity to heat and cool their homes and businesses. this is driven by our commitment to mitigating the negative impacts of climate change by motivating and assisting residents who wish to reduce their carbon footprint. we support all aspects of beneficial electrification through improving the efficiency of the building envelope and meeting their demands for heating and cooling loads with energy efficient heat pumps. there is a growing public appreciation for the benefits of clean heating and cooling technologies. our program offers free public education programs in conjunction with one-on-one opportunities for direct consultations to facilitate this transition. our board and staff promote the available technology options and the accompanying federal, state, and local incentives to support the conversion. the program also provides a list of vetted installer/contractors to assist residents with the adoption of these technologies. the business energy advisor program provided similarly relevant information to commercial and industrial entities in the gas constrained areas of the town of lansing. there is a severe shortage of qualified installers in the clean energy technology field. solar tompkins inc conducted a series of training programs to assist in developing the workforce needed to support the increasing workload of the hvac contractors installing heat pumps.
