The potomac watershed alliance's (the "alliance") primary mission is the protection of the environment in the rivers and streams that constitute the watershed of the potomac river valley in maryland, virginia and the district of columbia. the watershed of the potomac is an environmentally sensitive area that is increasingly threatened by over-development and population growth. the alliance will engage in a public awareness campaign which is intended to educate the public, in general, and federal, state and local government officials, in particular, to the environmental degradation of the potomac watershed caused by rampant over-development and lax environmental regulation and oversight.
