The mission of the poynter institute foundation (the foundation) is to be operated to support, perform services for, and at all times operate exclusively for the benefit of the poynter institute of media studies (the institute). absent the creation of the foundation, the institute would itself conduct the foundation's planned activities. in particular, the foundation will raise awareness in the public of importance of the institute's work educating journalists and engage with individuals and organizations sharing the institute's interest in educating journalists in order to increase the quality of journalism. reaching out to members of the public and targeted individuals and organizations sharing the institute's interest in journalism and education, the foundation plans to conduct a comprehensive fundraising program to allow it to develop a broad array of funders, including individual contributors, public charities, private foundations, corporate sponsors, and government agencies. the foundation will also make grants to and for the benefit of the institute to support the institute's work. in sum, the foundation will raise public awareness about the institute's activities, raise funds to support the institute, and provide funding to support or benefit the institute. accordingly, the foundation's activities will support and benefit the institute, and its activities will be those that, absent the foundation's creation, the institute would conduct itself.
