The school is organized and shall be operated exclusively for charitable, scientific, and education purposes within the meaning of section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code. Without limiting or expanding the foregoing, the purposes of the school are to operate a school of medicine with a focus on educating and training physicians in order to address the public health needs of the southwest region of virginia, to develop more effective health care methods, to provide service to underserved populations, and to provide an integrative and collaborative approach to patient care, medical education, and research.
