The mountain west environmental labor coalition (mwelc) was formed to ensure a balance between the rapid population growth, labor interests and the preservation of the natural environment in the mountain west region, to establish a role for workers and unions in environmental activism in the mountain west, to unite labor leaders, union members, environmental activist and other concerned local citizens in the mountain west region to advocate policies that protect the environment by ensuring that the best available technology, and most skilled workforce are used for any construction that will potentially affect the environment, and to received donations and other gifts of property and administer the same to further the purpose of the corporation.
