Cultural transition facilitation: the mission of the somali foundation is to assist east african refugees and other immigrants to adjust socially to the united states and live in economic security and good health by providing services, education and advocacy while honoring their culture. The east african health care initiative for kansas city provided medical translation and interpretation, transportation to healthcare providers, health education, and advocacy. These services are critical to teh immigrant/refugee clients, whose chief barrier to healthcare provision is language. In 2010 somali foundation inc provided 342 unduplicated health care access users with 1000 health care access encounters. In addition to health care, there were 653 social services users in computer, immigration, school enrollments, housing, employment, affidavit letters, attorney referrals, and other services critical to teh somli and eastern african refugee community.
