United community services, inc. exists solely to provide a long-term affordable office space solution for other non-profit human service agencies. through fundraising and bank financing, united community services, inc. obtained funding to purchase land and construct a 14,000 square foot building with a finished basement. the basement is used for common areas (i.E. kitchen, conference/meeting rooms, storage and media room). fundraising began in mid-october of 1994 and concluded with the construction of the building in 1996. fundraising was conducted by volunteer board members of united community services, inc. and other volunteers from the community. the building is centrally located to neenah/menasha residents and houses four non-profit human services. the purpose is to provide long term affordable office space for these agencies, to reduce these agencies' costs by sharing common administrataive services and to provide them rent free common areas. as bank debt is retired, actual rent figures are lowered. rent figures are established as a cost of operating and maintaining the building. united community services, inc. is run by the board of directors comprised of representatives from non-profit agencies that are leasing space in the building and outside community volunteers. the building is self-managed by the occupancy agencies and the board of directors. this helps keep operating expenses, thus rent figures, low.
