Newark Center for Meditative Culture

Overview

Mission

NCMC is a diverse urban meditation community serving the Greater Newark NJ area with donation-based and free programs. We are a New Jersey 501(c)3 non-profit organization established in 2017. Prior to that we served as a community initiative for 5 years.

What it reported doing in 2024

INVEST IN NEWARK - Ongoing grant funding enabled us to maintain ongoing programming Some of our accomplishments included: 1. Provided consistent free and donation-based programming, focusing on the BIPOC community, including weekly meditation classes and monthly BIPOC mini retreats serving 5-10 people per session. 2. Conducted five events and event series including a daylong retreat, and mini workshops incorporating mindfulness, self-care, healing movement, and nature-based wellness practices, serving 5 to 20 people per session. 3. Our board also taught and participated in off-site local community programs including a women's health summit, forest therapy at an urban farm, and a wellness series at Newark's main library. 4. NCMC has also added two local Council of Elders members to tailor programming to current community needs. 5. NCMC is looking to hire a social media/web designer and a grant writer in 2025 as these positions, formerly staffed by temporary hires, are currently vacant. We are seeking additional grant support, and we continue planning for in-person program expansion.
