The purpose of the association is to foster a sense of fraternity among members and former members of the united states army marksmanship unit (usamu) and the u.S. army, which will promote interest in the usamu by discharging certain social obligations, including hail/farewells, unit social events such as at the usamu ball, births, deaths and marriages, and to provide and institution for managing funds and activities which achieve these goals.The association by-laws in article v, awards and gifts state that awards will consist of, but not limited to, trophies, plaques, and medallions. other common provisions include farewell gifts, baby gifts, hospitalization flowers, and condolence flowers.None of these provisions allow for cash gifts or awards.In carrying out its functions the association provides relief to the u.S. army (u.S. government) by lessening the burdens of government associated with morale. maintaining the morale of the unit and its solders is of vital importance to the u.S
