Community roots housing foundation (the foundation) was formed in november 2010. the foundation is a washington state nonprofit corporation with headquarters in seattle, washington. the mission is to mobilize resources for community roots housing (community roots), a public development authority that strives to create inclusive housing and foster thriving, just communities. founded in 1976, community roots has focused its work on building and operating affordable housing, providing stability services to our residents, and developing healthy and sustainable communities. with 46 new and historic apartment buildings for individuals and families earning between 30% and 80% of area median income, community roots works every day to support communities across seattle that are socially just, culturally rich, and environmentally sustainable. many of community roots residents are members of groups that have been systemically oppressed by discriminatory institutions and policies, including families of color, immigrants, refugees, individuals living with chronic medical issues, and individuals and families transitioning from homelessness.
