Save Van Norden Meadow

Save van norden meadow was formed to acquire, on the public's behalf and for the benefit of all, a unique piece of real estate located at the headwaters of the south yuba river. The land in question is one of the larger natural meadows in northern california, and is an irreplaceable montane habitat for many species. Early in the 20th century the local public utility erected a dam which has since been abandoned due to seismic issues. The small lake created by the dam remains due to the abandoned dam structure. Some years ago a real estate development company acquired a large parcel of land from the public utility, which includes the van norden meadow parcel. Although no permission has been given to develop any of the acquired parcel of land, the real estate development company has barred public access to the meadow area.
