Sphinx foundation (the foundation) promotes certain educational and charitable purposes within the meaning of section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code of 1986, as amended (the code). more specifically, the purposes for which the corporation is formed include: a) to educate the students of dartmouth college ("dartmouththe "college") and members of the college community and members of the general public with the purpose of furthering knowledge of the history and traditions of dartmouth. b) to preserve and carry on the educational and charitable traditions and ceremonies of the sphinx organization which, since its founding in 1885, has promoted the ideals of academic excellence, community service, high moral purpose and respect for the traditions at the college, and trained and educated selected undergraduate members of the college to become prospective leaders of the college, local, national and global community. c) to be a reservoir of dartmouth's history and traditions in the college community and provide a museum of college and sphinx memorabilia and literature. d) to serve and support the college and community. e) to preserve and maintain the historic building at east wheelock street, hanover, new hampshire.
