The objective of this department shall be to further an organized system of fire protection and rescue, to promote the interest of its membership in active firefighting and rescue, in the advancement of better firefighting and rescue methods and safety first endeavor, and to provide for and maintain a fund, from legacies, bequests, and other sources, for the relief of its members who may be injured while performing public fire and rescue duties, or who may be prevented from the following of their usual occupation or calling on account of ailments caused by exposure or accident while on duty of firefighting and rescue operations and the nesessary working expenses of the department.
