The international atherosclerosis society (the society) was established on november 29, 1978 to promote the scientific understanding of the etiology, prevention, and treatment of atherosclerosis. the ias exists to coordinate globally the exchange of scientific information among the ias constituent societies and the medical world at large, to foster research and education on cardio-cerebro-metabolic and thrombosis risk factors into the development of atherosclerosis, and to help translate this knowledge into improving clinical practice and the effectiveness of programs designed to prevent and treat this disease among the medical community at large.
