Graduate Women in Science was started in 1921and was originally formed as a fraternal organization, to begin an "old girl's club" providing women in science the opportunity to interact in the informal and powerful ways that men in science did. The mission of our organization is to advance the participation and recognition of women in science and to foster research through grants, awards, and fellowships. There are local chapters throughout the US; Kappa chapter serves the NY/NJ area.
