Families are referred from meriter hospital or st. Mary's hospital, and new parents are also welcome to refer themselves to our program. The goals of welcome baby are to increase parent confidence and competence in their parenting skills, increase a parent's knowledge and enhancement of child development from birth to three years, and prevent harm or neglect of the child or children. A family support specialist provides a weekly home visit and promotes the development of a strong bond between parents and child. The home visitor provides screenings in areas of health, vision, hearing, and developmental growth including motor skills, language, intellectual, and social-emotional issues. Eventually the family will be ready to set the stage for further school readiness and to detect developmental delays.\n\nParents and children together (pact) is designed to meet the unique needs and learning styles of families headed by parents with cognitive limitations. One or both parents must have a cognitive delay in order to participate in the program. Pact is a strength-based supported parenting program based on the idea that parents know their children best and a family support specialist (fss) attempts to build on the strengths of each family. The program targets families with young children, preferably before or at birth and more than the age of five.
