We supply information packets to physician offices, community groups and individuals. Available material covers topics as diverse as diagnosis, medications and treatments. The chapter mailed approximately 350 of these packets this year.\n\nThe chief method of serving the needs of the lupus community is through our toll-free lupus line. During business hours, this phone is answered live and if a call is made after hours, it is returned the next business day. Incoming calls are generally from newly diagnosed patients, or their family members, who are seeking information and resources. The chapter provides referrals to board certified rheumatologists qualified to treat lupus patients. Other calls come from established patients who are suffering from the effects of the disease. Many of these individuals are housebound and are seeking interaction with others, inspiration and a sympathetic ear. During 2009-2010, 574 calls were placed to the lupus line.\n\nOne of the goals of the chapter is to bring the lupus community together. The chapter offers memberships, distributes a newsletter, hosts lectures and teleconferences and sponsors support groups which take place in several locations. Finally, the chapter arranges the largest gathering of lupus patients in the region each year at our walks for lupus now. The chapter provides referrals to board certified rheumatologists qualified to treat lupus patients. Other calls come from established patients who are suffering from the effects of the disease. Many of these individuals are housebound and are seeking interaction with others, inspiration and a sympathetic ear. During 2010-2011, approximately 600 calls were placed to the lupus line.\n\nOne of the goals of the chapter is to bring the lupus community together. The chapter offers memberships, distributes a newsletter, hosts lectures and teleconferences and sponsors support groups which take place in several locations. Finally, the chapter arranges the largest gathering of lupus patients in the region each year at our walks for lupus now.
