12/31/98 and 12/31/99 was $11,271.00.. pa adopted the tax reporting method of carrying the asset at the donors tax basis. the asset was subject to restrictions (since lifted): generally the stock was not to be sold and the dividends reinvested for two years before that income could be used for unrestricted purposes. in 2016, pa sold approximately 1/4th of this ge stock to cover four years of deficits. the sale put the organization in the black where it has remained until 2022. pa still carries the asset at donors tax basis of $44. this figure plus $3.00 in interest from pas regular mal-pruning and preserve urban green spaces. we achieve our mission by providing scientifically accurate pruning classes and and hands on workshops and by promoting preservation and proper management of urban and suburban green spaces through community engagement. pa is inclusive, tolerant and based on grass-roots collective action. part iii line 28: program accomplishments raise awareness of the problem: pa staffed booths at sorticulture, the west seattle garden tour, rotary clubs, tree climbing competitions and other public events while distributing free pruning quides and answering questions from the general public. arbor day activities included 25 arborists from pas referral service program who volunteered their time to remove dead/dying trees and plants from a soon-to-be public park. pas presented five molms (meetings of like minds) for members and the general public that brought experts in various horticultural disciplines into an intimate setting for talks and discussions with such topics as trees and a warming climate: strategies for management and adaptation; commercial property landscape management; urban trees and seattles new tree protection code. pas website offered access to an on-line library of hundreds of educational pruning articles spanning over 30 years and covering topics ranging from technical pruning to climate change. pa videos on youtube (both in english and spanish) delivered information beyond the local level. directly served: 1500 indirectly served: 20000. part iii line 29: program accomplishments provide the public and green industry professionals with tools, education and solutions: pas master pruner program offers both amateur and professionals certification in correct procedures and practices for pruning. this well-respected program was offered on-line via zoom with twelve classes (each once p/month) and on-site workshops. pa also partnered with the university of washington center for urban horticulture to offer the same program in a expedited process of two classes p/week for six weeks. classes covered a variety of areas of pruning topics including roses, trees, shrubs, vines, fruit trees, corrective pruning and yard renovation. the workshops, held in person and at specifically designated sites, helped master pruner students gain valuable hands-on experience by working along side professionals in a variety of settings and with a variety of challenges. classes are taught in both english and spanish. 742 students took the master pruner classes, 78 students participated in seven hands on workshops and 12 fully certified master pruners complete the program. 2022 saw the realization of a dream when pa opened the cass turnbull memorial scholarship fund to five community members for the entire mp program. pas good gardener and referral service programs are free services pa provided to the community connecting the general public who needed help with experienced and vetted gardeners and certified arborists who share the high pruning principles and ethics of the organization. over 850 pa members received discounts on events and classes as well as quarterly newsletters featuring pruning articles from industry leaders and took advantage of pa adopt-a-plant program where community members offer free plant exchanges: directly served: 2000 indirectly served: 5000. part iii line 30 program accomplishments instill the importance of plants in the urban environment with the general public pas mission has become increasingly important in light of plants role in fighting climate change. one of the centerpieces of this part of pas mission is the urban forest symposium. begun in 2013, the ufs has brought together professionals, civic leaders, land managers, students, advocates and the general community in a one day intensive discussion of environmental issues and concerns. the 2022 ufs was the culmination of three years collaboration with the stillguamish and puyallup tribes under the heading: restoring ancestral stewardship with community & our urban forests. the aim was to bridge the gap between tribal practices and local governments, fostering partnerships that can interweave community, access, ancestral stewardship and current management practices that all work together towards collaborative care of urban forests. pas heritage tree program nominates outstanding trees in the greater seattle area and marks them for preservation. a committee comprised of pa arborists take nominations from the general public (often home owners on whose property the trees are growing) while working in coordination with the city of seattle. all heritage trees are mapped for public access and contain a citation plaque. 20 such trees were recognized in 2022. the cass turnbull memorial garden, a project begun in 2018 after the death of pas founder, on the property of the philanthropic bullitt family, continued to evolve and change as the city of seattle parks and recreation department became involved under the terms of the bullitt family legacy. the city worked with the ctg to determine goals and access as well as future planning. this long-term project has engaged more than 250 volunteers working 12,000 hours to create ada accessible paths, salvage, install and maintain over 300 donated plants and create overlooks, stairways and public art pieces. fund the last 6000 is another pa program working with citizen scientists to save seattles tree canopy through advocacy including: support of the lakewood garry oaks conservancy, petitioning the port of seattle concerning parking lot construction in n seatac park and contributing to discussion with city officials regarding language in land use policies at seattle office of planning and community development. in 2022, pa was supported by over 140 volunteers who put in a total of 1,840 hours with the organizations outreach committees, events, public education and educational programming. more than thirty years, plantamnesty has been educating the general public and horticultural professionals on industry standard pruning of trees and shrubs to maintain the health of the urban landscape. the care and treatment of our urban forest has taken on high priority in the struggle against climate change as we rely on the carbon offset from older trees and plantings to clean our air and reduce temperatures. plantamnestys dynamic and professional classes, workshops and public events are cutting edge in this fight. we partner with the university of washington center for urban
