The statewide competition took place in reno, nevada in march of 2012, and included scholarship awards to three students and their high schools totally 1700 for students and 2000 for the high schools. Students from 14 of the 17 counties in the state participated.\n\nNaae brought the combat paper project to northern nevada in april 2012 at the lake mansion in reno for a three-day workshop that included veterans, gold-star mothers, blue-star mothers and interested artists. Twenty local residents participated throughout the weekend in making paper from used combat uniforms. In july of 2012, naae collaborated with the david j. Drakulich memorial art foundation to bring combat paper to the armory at the nevada national guard in carson city, another 20 local residents participated.\n\nNaae oversees the scholastic young writers awards in 13 of nevada's 17 counties. Over 50 entries were part of this competition that produces a number of gold key, silver key and honorable mention awards. Over 3,500 students, grades 9-12 competed for the ability to participate in washington dc in the national finals. Emily orellana from rainshadow community charter high school was the nevada state winner and finished in the top nine of the national competition. 2000 in scholarships were awarded.\n\n2.northern nevada writing region coordinators for the scholastic writing awards, producing a national visions and voices award winner from the region. Over 50 submissions were reviewed.
