fan and will be a long-time supporter of slfs!\" - slfs patron via facebook in 2016 slfs screened over 50 international films from over 20 different countries. nearly 70% of the year's total films were shown exclusively at slfs venues. the diversity of languages, topics and genres of film programming curated by slfs is designed to engage all residents at convenient showtimes with member and matinee prices. as the 2015 ahc/isr survey shows, slfs has strong appeal to citizens from many age groups; 37% are 34 or younger, 30% are between ages 35-54 and 33% are 55 or older. slfs is especially heartened to see that outreach efforts and programs to attract younger audiences have been successful. slfs builds audiences by partnering with local and national film festivals. in 2016 slfs hosted 17 film festivals from sundance to spy hop to the 48 hour film festival. these events attract a variety of audiences around many types of subjects and genres. two of slfs' own international programs, the czech and mexican film tours, now in their fifth year, further slfs' reach into underserved demographics. the film tours are both free and widely marketed with help from the city's international and hispanic communities. both the broadway centre and tower theatre are ada compliant. both venues provide wheelchair access and seating for patrons. state of the art receivers and headphones are available in both venues to amplify sound for those patrons who are hearing impaired, and slfs screens weekly hearing impaired closed caption films. another audience building development at slfs has been the remodeled broadway lobby and its use as an art gallery. in 2016 slfs hosted 6 world-class contemporary artists in our space with a deep collaboration with cuac. these exhibits are free and open to the public. the 12,000 title video archive housed at the tower theater is another ongoing outreach effort. this rare collection of titles is available for rent and free to slfs supporters providing access to a world of cinema within all budgets, timeframes and tastes. in 2015 over 9500 free rentals took place. to increase the diversity of its audience slfs makes its venues available to nonprofits, local organizations and individual residents to use for reduced or free cost. in 2016 slfs provided over 10 organizations with free or reduced venue access. slfs supports the filmmaking community by presenting q&a's and panel discussions after films, offering young filmmakers opportunities to show their work on the big screen and by running usp, utah screenwriters project that engages writers and artists in the community to produce and perform original works of art. \"slfs has done so much to promote international awareness and culture locally, but also on an operational level slfss partnership with czech that film has become the gold standard by which all of the other host cities in the annual tour have been measured over the past five years.\" jonathon t. tichy, list of the many ways slfs works with partners in the community: 1. hosts or co-hosts fundraisers, celebrations, and community awareness and educational events for hundreds of organizations and nonprofits per year including: springboard utah, krcl and wasatch coop. 2. works with dozens of filmmakers and more than 15 film festivals to provide technical and venue assistance and cross promote audiences, including: sundance, 48 hour and wild and scenic. 3. shares marketing resources with local media outlets, including kued, kuer and fuel marketing. 4. partners with local businesses on events, and goods and services, including sage cafe, whole foods and red rock brewery. 5. donates to over 50 area nonprofits for their fundraising events. in 2016 slfs donated memberships, hall rentals and other goods and services to a variety of organizations including; salt lake symphony, south jordan library and many more. 6. slfs trains over 100 volunteers on team building and nonprofit service, and partners with apple and benevity to raise funds from volunteer hours. 7. provides sharetix and givhousing with over 400 free tickets for underserved audiences. 150 low-income giv residents saw free movies in 2016. 8. promotes downtown alliance, rda, slc police dept. and other governmental entities through on screen presence at venues. 9. offers 25 programs per year with 5 schools and higher ed institutions. including east hollywood high school, westminster college and slcc. 10. traded over $120,000 of in-kind goods and services 11. partners with multiple nonprofit and businesses in its on screen underwriting program. non profits as diverse as best friends animal shelter, salty cricket, viviaci and utah chamber artists participate. 12. does outreach around the city at the farmer's market, pride day, 9th and 9th festival and living traditions. other ongoing partnerships include working with cuac to provide art exhibits at the broadway, co-presenting the national theater live performances with tanner humanities center, producing an in-house podcast, and partnering with the u of u film and media arts department on events to show and celebrate student work. new in 2016 is the college campus screening series which brings the best of independent cinema to the campus' of both slcc and the u of u post theater for students at no cost to them. cinema is the most significant art form developed in the modern era. slfs is a key community resource for storytelling. in addition, slfs venues serve as cultural and economic anchors. both the broadway centre and tower theatre increase livability and foot traffic year round by offering arts experiences to over 20,000 patrons per month. slfs fosters a film experience that motivates audiences to gather with neighbors in a public environment where art, ideas, culture and entertainment are experienced on the big screen through the vision of great cinema artists past and present. within walking distance from all major downtown hotels, with convenient show times and affordable prices, the broadway centre is a frequently visited cultural destination for many convention goers and tourists. slfs is a leader and
