And so, we pressed forward and over our second year weve discovered we have a unique role to play in bringing together the leaders and institutions that need avenues to convene and join in their ideas and resources. We have a responsibility to draw attention to the stories and experiences of those who are impacted most by the work about which we and our partners are so passionate. We have become a powerful force for change in how we train, train-up, and retain the workforce that supports Virginias most critical needs. We have momentum. At its basic level, momentum is generated by a combination of speed and volume. When reviewing this past year, VA Ready quickly pivoted as an organization to become a conduit for not only improving individual lives but also improving the systems upon which they rely. We are the newest voice shouting for change and for positive transformation people and institutions are listening. The impacts of our decisions are substantial. In the last year, we have helped more than 1,868 scholars find meaningful, family-sustaining work. Advocating for Corporate & Community Social ResponsibilityThis past year was exceptional. Every day, Virginia Ready (VA Ready) has worked, and continues working, to nurture positive transformation of our workforce by making vital training opportunities available to more people and by bringing new voices to the table. One of the most impactful ways this is done is through the art of conversation. Were creating opportunities for dialogue and connection to learn from employers about what is truly needed to build and sustain a strong labor force and fill the tens of thousands of job openings across the Commonwealth. This mission of connectivity is the backbone of what we do. VA Ready has embraced this mission as well as the support of those who share our ambition to strengthen Virginias communities through a diverse, skilled, and motivated workforce.VA Ready understands more than most just what it means when an individual has worked so hard for the opportunities that so many others take for granted. And we also uniquely understand the challenges that todays employers are facing because we take the time to speak with them. We are not just a job placement organization and we are so much more than a training conduit. We are a liaison for anyone seeking an opportunity to improve their life and improve the lives of others through family-sustaining careers. There is no shortage of organizations and funding mechanisms in Virginia that are working to solve todays workforce challenges. But VA Ready is different. We convene big ideas, foster collaboration in ways where others have failed, and we listen. We see early indicators of both success and challenge, and were on the ground speaking with scholars, workforce partners, educators, and employers to find the common ground to achieve progress. VA Ready makes it possible for employers to retain skilled workers, to grow their business and give back to their communities at a time when the economy remains uncertain. We make it possible for underserved populations to have the financial reward they deserve for hard work, and we connect them to jobs that have previously overlooked them. By training, rewarding, and supporting Virginians, particularly those in the ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) population and members of BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) communities, were able to change the face of the labor force for the better, and support companies in their efforts to strengthen the economy and our society, one job at a time. Our Work in Action:FY 2021 for Virginia Ready (VA Ready) was successful on many accounts. For an organization still in its infancy, we achieved volumes in a short period of time through new collaborations, partnerships, community connections, and funding pathways. Rather than maintain status quo, we embraced the challenge we set in our first year to think big, and the results are impressive. Partners in Success: One of our most impactful initiatives was pairing Virginia residents with Commercial Drivers License (CDL) training and hiring opportunities to address strains in the supply chain. Within the partnerships first 100 days, 341 Virginians enrolled in a CDL credential course at their local community college and 170 earned their credential. In total, 660 Scholars earned their Commercial Drivers License this year. Bringing Experts Together:The Partner Summit, held twice per year, is a gathering of Virginia Ready Business & Education Partners to discuss changes in the labor market, the impact on industry, and the role we each play in transforming and preparing the incoming workforce.October 2021 Partner Summit:The Fall Summit highlighted successful partnerships that created direct hiring pipelines for Scholars. With the goal of showcasing how partners worked with VA Ready, attendees were able to see the mission of VA Ready in practice. The changing landscape of the business world has propelled companies to make vital changes to their recruitment and hiring efforts. Key takeaways of this gathering included:Offer clear career pathways: To avoid staffing issues down the line, invest in your employees opportunities up frontIdentify available workers in your talent pool: Virginia Ready (VA Ready) provides the opportunity to be connected with individuals who are interested in your industryImprove recruiting efforts to connect with the right people: Companies are now implementing more virtual career events which are actually easier for connecting potential employees with hiring managers April 2022 Partner Summit:Virginia Ready (VA Ready) invited Skills for Chicagolands Future to join the summit as a guest speaker and share an overview of its mission and vision to inspire conversation and connection among all organizations present. Keynote speaker Marie Lynch, President and CEO of Skills for Chicagolands Future, discussed her companys mission to create economic mobility in some of Chicagos more disinvested neighborhoods by matching unemployed and underemployed residents with employers in need of workers. June 2022 IT/Tech Talent Task Force:On June 21, 2022, VA Ready gathered IT/Tech Business Partners and Community College Partners to discuss career pathway solutions for credentialed VA Ready Scholars and non-traditional students.Talent Task Force meetings help create a better understanding of the hiring challenges faced by companies and job seekers, informing the development of career resources and skills-based workshops to better prepare VA Ready Scholars for their selected industry pathway. With a Skills First methodology, Education Partners were given the opportunity to share what is being learned and applied in the classroom and gain insights from businesses about potential gaps in the skills needed for the current in-demand roles. In turn, Business Partners had the opportunity to discover more about the underutilized talent pool looking for family-sustaining careers. Regional Impact:One of the greatest learnings from this past year is that workforce development is done best regionally. With that in mind, Virginia Ready (VA Ready) established its Southwest expansion efforts in May of 2022. This expansion was missioned with expanding the VA Ready presence in the Southwest Region while increasing collaboration across teams to grow enrollment in FastForward courses at participating colleges, and placing students into jobs with business partners in the area. The four colleges participating are Central Virginia, Mountain Gateway, New River, and Virginia Western community colleges. Scholars in Success: Our Scholars come from diverse backgrounds and represent the full spectrum of diversity across the Commonwealth.","year":2021,"name":"Virginia Ready Initiative","website":"www.vaready.org","type":"990","principal_officer":"Natalie Foster","year_formation":2020,"state_legal_domicile":"VA","total_volunteers":45,"tax_period_begin":"2021-07-01T00:00:00","tax_period_end":"2022-06-30T00:00:00","address":"107 S West Street STE 135, Alexandria, VA, 22314, USA","city":"Alexandria","state":"VA","country":"USA","zip_code":"22314"},"Governance":{"501c3 determination":true,"Number of voting members":9,"Number of independent voting members":8,"Number of employees total":14,"Total Gross UBI":0,"Net unrelated business taxable income":0,"Number of employees":14,"Prohibited tax shelter transactions":false,"Taxable party notification":false,"Funds to pay premiums":false,"Premiums Paid":false,"Family or business relationship":false,"Delegation of management duties":false,"Conflict of interest policy":true,"Whistle blower policy":true,"Compensation process for CEO":true,"Compensation process for other employees":true,"Changes to organizing documents":true,"Material diversion or misuse":false,"Members or stockholders":false,"Election of board members":false,"Decisions subject to approval":false,"Minutes of governing body":true,"Local chapters":false,"Form 990 provided to governing body":true,"Document retention policy":true,"Investment in joint venture":false,"Independent audit financial statements":true,"Consolidated audit financial statements":false,"Accountant compile or review":false,"Financial statements audited by independent accountant":true,"Audit committee":true,"Federal grant audit required":false,"Audited financial statements separate":true,"Political activities":false,"Donor advised funds":false,"Conservation easements":false,"Collections of art":false,"School":false,"Hospital":false,"Foreign activities":false,"Foreign office":false,"Gaming":false,"Fundraising activities":false,"Professional fundraising":false,"Loan to officer or DQP":false,"Grant to related person":false,"Business relationship through family member":false,"Business relationship with organization":false,"Transfers to exempt non-charitable organization":false},"Revenues":{"value":1469381,"Contributions":{"value":1370901,"Other contributions":1370901},"Program revenue":{"value":0},"Investment income":{"value":98480,"Investment income total":74958,"Net investment gain":23522},"Other revenues":{"value":0}},"Expenses":{"value":3233232,"Grant expense":{"value":1868000,"Grants to domestic individuals":1868000},"Total professional fundraising expense":{"value":0},"Benefits paid to members":{"value":0},"Salaries":{"value":893403,"Current officers":151731,"Other salaries and wages":612205,"Pension plan contributions":25869,"Other employee benefits":46305,"Payroll taxes":57293},"Other expenses":{"value":471829,"Legal":2906,"Accounting":38369,"Investment management fees":2391,"Other services":186053,"Advertising":7011,"Office expenses":4743,"Information technology":50274,"Travel":20684,"Depreciation and depletion":3332,"Insurance":1855,"Itemized Expenses":{"value":154211,"Dues and Subscriptions":12792,"Bank Service Charges":3070,"Bad Debts":125000,"Other":13349}},"Functional Expenses":{"Program Service Expenses":2879815,"Management And General Expenses":291318,"Fundraising Expenses":62099}},"Assets":{"value":7826033,"Non-interest bearing cash":1779964,"Pledges and grants receivable":1050000,"Prepaid expenses deferred charges":18166,"Land, building, equipment":12392,"Investments publicly traded":4965511},"Liabilities":{"value":248040,"Accounts payable, accrued":248040},"Fund balance":{"value":7577993,"Net assets without donor restriction":6527993,"Net assets with donor restriction":1050000},"Form990Details":{"program_service_accomplishments":[{"description":"As Virginia Ready (VA Ready) concludes our second fiscal year, were pleased to celebrate with all of those who have partnered with us and supported our mission since our 2020 beginnings. Program Service Accomplishments Continued:A Year of Firsts, Accomplishments, and MomentumVA Ready began as a solution to the problem at hand: connect with those Virginians who were economically impacted by the pandemic, help them rapidly reskill to meet market demands and find them jobs in industries with the greatest labor shortages like healthcare, manufacturing and skilled trades, and computer and cyber security technology. This effort has been a success by every measure, and we are just getting started:2,178 Virginians Enrolled703 Virginians Achieved Credentials Additionally, in its inaugural year VA Ready captured the imagination of influencers and media and generated over 315 stories across all media including online, broadcast, print, and radio.2021 Business PartnersOur 24 (and counting) Business Partners: 1901 Group BAE Systems Bank of America Bon Secours Booz Allen Hamilton Carilion Clinic CNSI CoStar Group Dominion Energy EY Fairfax Radiology Centers General Dynamics Genworth Harris Williams Huntington Ingalls ManTech International Corp. Camp Community College Piedmont Community College Rappahannock Comm Our first step was to interview over 30 of Virginias best and brightest businesses to discover and verify what companies and industries had ongoing needs for skilled talent now, and would need more skilled talent in the future.Second, we looked for an education partner who could provide training to earn credentials to match the skills needed by these businesses and industries. We discovered the highly successful FastForward program already in place across the 23 colleges in the Virginia Community College System (VCCS). The FastForward program has high completion rates and offers a variety of funding sources, making it affordable for nearly everyone who enrolls. Third, we decided to offer a $1,000 Credential Achievement Award for those motivated Virginians who enroll, complete, and achieve a credential in one of 34 rigorous, accelerated credential programs that we support. Then, we developed a program where our business partners can post jobs at the Job Opportunities Board and promote it widely to VA Ready Scholars who can apply and interview for a new job and a whole new career pathway.VA Ready partners with businesses and the VCCS to incentivize Virginians to pursue training for in-demand jobs, and supports them along their journey to a new job. FastForward: With $13.5 million appropriated for the 2020-21 fiscal year, FastForward pays two-thirds of the required tuition for FastForward approved training programs (which averages ~$2,400) when the student completes the program and the certificate. Each of the 31 VA Ready programs is already approved by FastForward. Each of our partners is critical to VA Readys aspiration to support as many as 15,000 VA Ready Scholars during the next 24 months. When VA Ready was launched on June 29, 2020, our initial mission was to support Virginians who had found themselves unemployed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We soon realized that the devastating workforce effects of COVID-19 were not confined to only the unemployed, and updated our eligibility criteria in October 2020 to include any Virginian whose employment has been disrupted due to the pandemic, including situations in which a person is underemployed and working multiple jobs to make ends meet. In early 2021, we all began to see the light at the end of the pandemic tunnel but we knew that our work was not done. Virginians everywhere were still in need of support as they worked to take their futures into their own hands, learn in-demand new skills, and find family-sustaining care We challenged ourselves to think even bigger could an organization focused on one small subset of Virginias unemployed become a resource for the rest of the state? In June 2021, we officially opened up the VA Ready program to include all Virginians who are motivated to learn a new skill and find a fulfilling career, regardless of employment status. This change was an important step for the future of VA Ready and made our program available to thousands of those who were not previously eligible, including veterans and transitioning military members. And despite the changes to our program, weve remained committed to only supporting high-growth industries where Scholars have a better chance of finding family-sustaining and fulfilling careers. Our new mission: to help as many Virginians as possible rapidly gain new skills for in-demand jobs in the Commonwealth. What makes VA Ready unique and powerful:- Business-led by Employer Partners- Available Statewide to all Virginians- Leverage Successful Existing VCCS and FastForward Infrastructure- Entrepreneurial and Agile with a Bias For Action- Rigorous Tracking of Data and Outcomes- Focus on closing the supply-demand gap of employment opportunities VA Ready Scholars Ready to WorkVirginia Ready Scholars inspire us each day with their courage and commitment. They are resilient and motivated, passionate and bold. They are redefining what it means to be skilled and valuable members of the workforce by challenging outdated notions that assume a college degree is a necessary key to success. Our Scholars step out of their comfort zone and into the unknown to participate in a rigorous, fast-paced educational program that is tailored to meeting the needs of in-demand jobs in high-growth business sectors right here in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Through our partnership with FastForward, Scholars get a high quality, industry-specific education in a matter of weeks, often between 8 and 20 weeks. They emerge with the skills to succeed in the fastest growing and most lucrative segments of the economy, along with a support system to help them find the jobs that are right for them. Our programs are available through 23 participating colleges of the Virginia Community College System (VCCS), and Scholars can participate in any one of over 30 credential training programs that span the fields of technology, healthcare, and skilled trades. The programs are operated through FastForward, a rapid-turnaround, low-cost workforce credential program to train Virginians for top in-demand jobs across the Commonwealth. After four successful years, the Virginia Ready team and board have determined the impact of the mission can scale faster by shifting to invest in established organizations dedicated to credentialing and non-traditional education that will lead Virginians on career paths toward economic mobility. This legacy of partnership will continue, by investing back the organizations remaining funds into nonprofits making significant strides across the state (and regionally). These include United Way of Southwest Virginia - EO, United Way of South Hampton Roads, United Way of Greater Richmond & Petersburg, the Community Foundation of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County, and Claude Moore Charitable Foundation/Claude Moore Opportunities. Virginia Ready was built on a conviction that every Virginian should have a chance to build the skills they need to help them get to where they want to go. This belief not only guided our work, but also helped us connect with the workforce organizations in Virginia making similar impact and were excited to further invest in them, said Natalie Foster, Virginia Ready Executive Director. The organizations were selected based on geographic region, their commitment to showing impact data and their alignment with the Virginia Ready mission objectives:1.Connecting scholars to high-quality, industry-specific training programs.2.Supporting career advancement in individuals careers.3.Driving economic growth and prosperity in Virginia by developing career-minded citizens.4.Being a skills-first ally in the workforce by providing equal access.5.Building strong partnerships with businesses, educational institutions, and community organizations. We are so grateful for Virginia Ready and their shift to invest in the network, said Travis Staton, President & CEO of EO. They truly exemplify the belief that we can go further together. This gift will greatly accelerate our work to connect the workforce of tomorrow with the skills, training, and experiences needed to be successful in vital growth sectors such as skilled trades, healthcare, and information technology. We are so grateful to Virginia Ready for their shift to invest in this work. At the United Way of South Hampton Roads, we believe in the power of collaboration and the importance of addressing the most important needs in our community, said Mark Uren, President & CEO. This funding allows us to expand our work around economic mobility and truly exemplifies our mutual commitment to improving lives. We are happy to support Virginia Ready and their shift to invest in our regions workforce preparedness. We believe workforce development helps create a stronger financial future for every generation. Financial well-being leads to strong communities. We want to help everyone get there and it starts with stable employment with financial stability. Barbara Couto Sipe, President & CEO, United Way of Greater Richmond & Petersburg. The Community Foundation of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County is honored to have been chosen to be a local partner with Virginia Ready Initiative. This grant funding will benefit adult learners namely in the nursing and vocational fields. The Community Foundation values education in all its forms and thats where our new partnership with Virginia Ready comes into play. Thanks to this funding, we will be able to support adults who want better lives for themselves and their families. Thank you Virginia Ready for selecting The Community Foundation to carry out your mission in the Shenandoah Valley. Revlan Hill, Executive Director. Claude Moore Opportunities is grateful to receive this extraordinary gift from Virginia Ready as we launch our new initiative to address Virginias healthcare workforce shortage and to provide increased and improved career opportunities for Virginians, said Dr. William Hazel, Jr., CEO of Claude Moore Opportunities and former Virginia Secretary of Health and Human Resources. Claude Moore Opportunities will use this gift to build on the important work done by Virginia Ready to help Virginians receive in-demand credentials and career readiness skills, as well as the Claude Moore Charitable Foundations 20-year record of success in supporting collaborative efforts to expand opportunity and meet the needs of communities around the Commonwealth. A Snapshot from COVID-19:As businesses grappled with closures and layoffs, and traditional employment avenues dwindled, a new reality emergedthe need for a workforce equipped with adaptable skills aligned with the demands of a rapidly evolving economy. Across sectors such as Healthcare, IT/Technology, and Skilled trades, the demand for specialized talent continued to grow, presenting both an opportunity and a challenge for Virginians seeking to navigate the shifting landscape of employment. Virginia Ready responded with a comprehensive solution designed to bridge the gap between job seekers and in-demand industries. By leveraging partnerships with leading employers, educational institutions, and community organizations, Virginia Ready embarked on a mission to enable Virginians to acquire the skills and resources they need to succeed in a competitive job market, while uplifting the value of credential-based education. Why Virginia Ready?:How were all these challenges to be solved? As its core, Virginia Ready was not created to reinvent the wheel or duplicate services. Its vision was to creatively take advantage of existing infrastructure to support the immediate needs of displaced workers. Unemployment was high, but the demand for talent was equally as dire. How could an organization connect the dots for job seekers and employers? With that goal in mind, a talent development ecosystem emerged. It put Virginians at its center to advocate, convene, and drive results. Virginia Ready was established. Addressing the Skills Gap:Workforce credential programs serve as a catalyst for economic prosperity in Virginia and offer the following benefits:Enhance Employability and Earning Potential:Credentials validate individuals skills and expertise, making them more attractive to employers seeking qualified candidates, positioning themselves for higher wages and long-term career advancement.Align with Industry Needs:Workforce credential programs are designed in collaboration with industry experts and employers, ensuring that the skills taught are relevant and in-demand. Drive Efficiency and Reduce Costs:Workforce credential programs are often more efficient and cost-effective than a 4-year degree. Individuals can acquire valuable skills and certifications faster, reducing financial burdens and helping them to enter the workforce faster.Address the Skills Gap Through Credentialing:The Virginia Ready model was built on the conviction that every Virginian should have the chance to build the skills they need to help them get to where they want to go.The 2020 events highlighted a skilled worker shortage, despite high unemployment. Virginia Ready aimed to understand and address this disconnect between job openings and talent availability. Supported by McKinsey & Company, Virginia Ready gathered data on job market conditions and employer needs to link job seekers with high-quality training. This analysis identified in-demand occupations with significant supply-demand gaps, focusing on roles where demand far exceeded supply. To quickly upskill overlooked talent, Virginia Ready partnered with the community college systems FastForward program, ensuring statewide access to efficient, quality training. Workplace Readiness:Soft skills are central to helping preparing people for the workforce and the evolving demands of the future.Virginia Ready highlighted the need to integrate soft skills training with technical education for comprehensive career readiness. What began as an urgent need to re-skill Virginians amid a pandemic has evolved into a force for continued progress in upskilling Virginians for economic mobility. The workforce challenges Virginia Ready continues working to address are complex: lower participation in the workforce, aging Americans with limited retirement savings, unaffordable college tuitions, antiquated recruiting and hiring practices, to name just a few. Theres certainly no one way to address all these challenges. The comprehensive approach that Virginia Ready takes to educate, equip, and empower our scholars is making meaningful progress.(Continued on Schedule O)\n\nPart III - Organizations Mission and VisionMission: The mission of Virginia Ready is to rapidly reskill Virginians for in-demand jobs by supporting credentials in high-growth industries where Scholars have a better chance of finding career pathways that are family-sustaining and fulfilling.Vision:Our vision is to build an inclusive workforce and to be a catalyst for community change by fostering career opportunities for all Virginians.\n\nProgram Service Accomplishments Continued:Educate. Beyond the technical aspects of a role, a deeper understanding of workplace dynamics is often critical to success in the workplace, whether youre entering or re-entering the workforce, or switching careers. Virginia Ready and our Skills First Allies continued to support this soft skill development for our scholars in 2023, hosting learning opportunities on topics like total compensation and sharing resources on time management, effective business communication, and resum writing.Equip. Virginia Ready focuses on credential-based programs because they are equitable, repeatable, attainable, and clearly tracked to high demand sectors. Between July of 2022 and June of 2023, Virginia Ready supported nearly 2,700 scholars who earned industry credentials across our three verticals: Healthcare; Business/IT; and Skilled Trades.Empower. While there are obvious advantages for Virginia in upskilling our workforce in high demand sectors, the most important work Virginia Ready does is empowering our scholars. Working at scale across the state, our 37 Skills First Allies are giving more Virginians the information and experiences they need to earn a family-sustaining wage and improve their economic mobility.Who Are Virginia Ready Scholars? In FY23, 2,956 Virginia Ready Scholars achieved their Credentials for in-demand careers in Healthcare; IT Computers & Business Services; and Skilled Trades. Since Inception, 5,527 Virginians have obtained credentials because of the Virginia Ready Initiative. Another 1,733 Virginia Ready Scholars are in the process of obtaining their credential as of June 30, 2023.An overview of the demographics of our Credentialed Scholars:By Gender:Female: 46% Male: 53% Non-Binary: .4% Prefer not to answer: .6%By Education (98.1):High School: 39.2%Some College: 27.3%Bachelors Degree: 10.9%Associate Degree: 9.0%GED: 5.7%Graduate/Prof Degree: 3.2%Other/Unidentified: 4.5% By Ethnicity:Black43.2%White36.8%Hispanic or Latino 5.6%Prefer not to Answer 4.5%Multi-Racial 3.7%Asian 3.6%All others 2.6%By Age:18-2010.7%21-2516.5%26-3015.5%31-3514.5%36-4012.2%41-45 8.6%46-50 5.6%51-55 4.8%56-60 2.6%61-75 1.5%Unidentified 7.5% Since 2020, Virginia Ready has awarded $5.5 million ($5,527,000) to scholars who have completed the program as they achieve their goals and build fulfilling careers. Through employer engagement, Virginia Ready creates more opportunity for scholars to find family sustaining employment: Skills First Ally Highlight: Genworth & MaximusTwo Fortune 500 Companiesfounding partners of Virginia ReadyGenworth Financial and Maximus located in Richmond, VA approached Virginia Ready with a need: to help them fill customer service positions at their call centers. Both were companies offering in person and remote work positions with the goal of hiring 25 or more per month. CCWA, which is composed of Reynolds & Brightpoint Community Colleges, already had a FastForward program that led to a credential in customer service. The problem? They had a hard time filling it and the class had not been run in years. Together, CCWA and Virginia Ready committed to reviving the course to support the hiring needs of these two great companies that both offered competitive salaries and most importantly, a career path with upward mobility.Beginning in March of 2023, led by Virginia Ready, members of CCWA, Genworth, and Maximus met to review curriculum, create marketing strategies for recruitment into the course, and began planning hiring information sessions that would direct scholars to their open positions.A small cohort of scholars kicked off in June with two additional full classes scheduled for the fall. Skills First Ally Highlight: VerisignOctober 2022 marked the end of a six-month mentorship program where Virginia Ready Scholars were paired with mentors in the tech/IT industry, receiving guidance on their career journey. The program was made possible by our partnership with Verisign, a technology company focused on domain name registry services and internet infrastructure. Verisign employees graciously volunteered their time and expertise to serve as mentors and invest in the lives of our Scholars.Meeting Scholar Needs:Virginia Ready expanded our list of Education Partners in June 2023 by onboarding the Commonwealth Cyber Initiative as an Education Partner to address the needs of our IT scholars who are looking to work in this competitive industry. This unique offering allowed scholars the opportunity to take a 7-week bootcamp course and gain real world experience in the IT industry by completing a 12-week paid apprenticeship program with a Virginia business. Information learned during the bootcamp is so thorough and robust that at the time of completion, participants can sit for the CompTIA Security+, CompTIA Network+, or AWS Cloud Practitioner credential, allowing for options to choose their pathway into the industry. Our partnership with this organization benefits future career switchers by allowing them to learn new skills, network with other career minded individuals, and cultivate relationships with their potential future employer. In the Community:The Virginia Ready team traveled across the state to spread the word about our program, advocate for skills-first hiring, and celebrate workforce partners uplifting credentialed Virginians: Girl Power - Charlottesville Virginia Ready Initiative joined the Virginia, Maryland & Delaware Association of Electric Cooperatives at their annual Girl Power event, a one-day energy career experience for high school girls interested or curious about working in the energy industry.Hire Ed Conference - RoanokeVirginia Ready deepened relationships with Higher Education Practitioners, learned about the Virginia Talent Opportunity Partnership (VTOP) modules, and presented the impact we have on scholars ability.Hire Vets Now Hampton RoadsAttending the Hire Vets Now Event gave us the opportunity to gain greater insight into the credentials and resources needed by transitioning and active-duty service members. Tidewater Skilled Trades Academy - TidewaterThe team visited Tidewater Community Colleges Skilled Trades Academy in October 2022 and had a chance to meet some of our Scholars in person, see them in action, and get a taste of the stellar welding program. VACCE Conference - WaynesboroTo create more awareness about the benefits of partnering with Virginia Ready, the team presented at the Virginia Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives which led to a partnership with the Commonwealth Cyber Initiative.VHHA Conference - RichmondWe connected with hospital partners at scale when presenting on the benefits of hiring credentialed healthcare talent at their annual Workforce Summit. United Way of Southwest Virginia 2022 Rural Summit - AbingdonNatalie Foster, Executive Director, led a workshop on Business-led Partnerships to Solve Labor Shortages and Skill Gaps. The Rural Summit brought together more than 300 leaders, practitioners, educators, and community members to explore proven strategies for building resilient and prosperous communities.Solutions for the Aging Workforce:Virginia Ready gathered business and education leaders across the Commonwealth virtually to discuss best practices in overcoming knowledge loss while simultaneously preparing incoming talent.Moderated by Virginia Ready Partnerships Manager Taylor Beck, the Summit welcomed speakers Dr. Lori Esposito Murray of the Committee for Economic Development and Matt Kellam of Dominion Energy to discuss their findings and possible solutions:Were dealing with the perfect storm of aging Americans, low birth rates, and less participation in the workforce, said Dr. Murray. She suggested companies reform hiring parameters including hiring based on skill sets over commonly sought-after four-year degrees. Diversifying talent pools will also aid the hiring process by recruiting long-term unemployed candidates, underrepresented groups, and older employees who wish to continue working efforts supported by Virginia Ready and their partners. If were going to appeal to a younger workforce, we have to be deliberate with our education partnerships, said Matt Kellam, Workforce Development and Planning Coordinator of Dominion Energy.
