But since we are all in our mid-to-late 80s, we needed some professional assistance and hired a woman with ties to the Jewish community as a consultant, part time. In addition to outreach to Jewish groups and public officials about the plight of the needy survivors, she helped us after the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee passed a bill to restore survivors legal rights against insurance companies that cheated our families. Some of the money we paid her went toward organizing a press conference in Washington with the Congressional sponsors, circulating a petition, making hotel arrangements, and following up with some offices. In most cases, the survivors who traveled to Washington paid their own way, in some cases bringing their children and grandchildren because they needed help with to travel, or for the historic experience. But since we are all in our mid-to-late 80s, we needed some professional assistance and hired a woman with ties to the Jewish community as a consultant, part time. In addition to outreach to Jewish groups and public officials about the plight of the needy survivors, she helped us after the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee passed a bill to restore survivors legal rights against insurance companies that cheated our families. Some of the money we paid her went toward organizing a press conference in Washington with the Congressional sponsors, circulating a petition, making hotel arrangements, and following up with some offices. In most cases, the survivors who traveled to Washington paid their own way, in some cases bringing their children and grandchildren because they needed help with to travel, or for the historic experience.
