Empower new haven is committed to strengthening neighborhoods through increasing homeownership. In addition, our homepower/homeownership initiatives provide immediate assistance to empowerment zone resident homeowners for emergency repairs of their homes or to correct major system deficiencies and improve the exteriors of their homes to sustain homeownership in the empowerment zones.\n\nAssets for independence-new haven .a.v.e..(supporting asset ventures for economic security) is an individual development account (ida) initiative targeting low income new haven families. This is a 2:1 match program which has three allowable asset purchases, first-time homebuyer, micro-enterprise, and secondary education. Participants can save up to 2,000 for a match of 4,000 toward an allowable asset purchase. The intent of this initiative is to promote long term savings and overall financial health of new haven's low-income families. Compassion capital fund-the new haven non-profit academy is a capacity building program for new haven's grassroots, community development and faith based organizations. This initiative seeks to improve the overall health of new haven non-profits by providing class-based training, one-on-one technical assistance through qualified consultants and a grant award program.
