concurrent electronic health record (ehr) initiative has been implemented by both the acute and ambulatory facilities in the novant health system. clinicians can share patients' medical information between physician offices, outpatient centers, and hospitals. this sharing of information improves safety and coordination of care and promotes connectivity and communication between hospital caregivers, specialists and primary care providers. embarking on the journey to create a shared ehr is the most significant and important investment novant health has ever made for its patients and team members. as a result of these efforts, novant health achieved a 'world's first' milestone when we became the first health system to be revalidated for the health information and management systems society (himss) analytics stage 7 ambulatory award for our use of an ehr. novant health also continued to implement the use of \"mychart,\" a free online tool offered through the ehr that allows patients to access their health information, communicate with the physicians via email, schedule appointments, and refill prescriptions. by the end of 2016, more than 678,000 patients were enrolled in mychart and over 88,000 patient appointments were scheduled with medical group providers through \"mychart\" over the 12 month period. novant health introduced a new feature to mychart in 2016. patients have already enjoyed using mychart to review personalized health information, email care teams, request prescription renewals, manage appointments online, view laboratory results, and access family records. they are now able to pair the mychart app with apple watch. with mychart for apple watch, patients can receive alerts for new information in mychart, view upcoming appointments, view mychart messages, and review their medication list. in 2016, novant health medical group also continued its use of e-visits and video visits, which provided patients with other options for care at an affordable price. as a result, more than 14,800 e-visits were conducted by the end of 2016. awards, recognitions & certifications/re-certifications novant health medical group physician clinics are also leading new developments in how health services will be delivered in the future. the national committee for quality assurance recognized 126 medical group clinics with level 3 patient-centered medical home (\"pcmh\") status. in this model of care, a physician-led team of nurses, physicians' assistants and others collaborate to ensure that every patient receives appropriate preventive and medical care, education and support. earning pcmh recognition supports many medical group initiatives including: - meaningful use of the ehr - diabetes and heart/stroke recognition programs - improving same-day access - performance measurement and quality improvement - team-based care and population health the north carolina department of labor (\"ncdol\") recognized 168 novant health medical group clinics and departments with awards for their safety performance in 2016. department of labor commissioner cherie berry presented the awards at a ceremony in winston salem, nc. the awards were for achieving standards of the north american industry classification system and are part of a program that the ncdol sponsors to recognize firms throughout north carolina that achieve and maintain outstanding safety records. the novant health medical group revenue cycle services (\"rcs\") team has been awarded the healthcare financial management association (hfma) 2016 map certificate of recognition in revenue cycle achievement. accreditation all novant health medical group clinics have been fully accredited by the joint commission, an independent organization that evaluates a healthcare organization's performance in areas that most affect patient health and safety. in 2016, cola, the premier clinical laboratory education, consultation, and accreditation organization, awarded 12 novant health medical group clinic labs with perfect scores for their inspections. another 18 novant health medical group clinic labs participated in clinical laboratory improvement amendments inspections and received 100% ratings with no deficiencies. novant health wound care & hyperbaric medicine with locations in winston salem and kernersville, nc received accreditation from the undersea and hyperbaric medical society (uhms). earning this accreditation required a rigorous evaluation of the clinic's operations to ensure that the highest standards of care are maintained within the specialty of undersea and hyperbaric medicine. novant health vascular diagnostics with locations in winston salem and kernersville, nc has been granted an additional three-year accreditation by the intersocietal accreditation commission in vascular testing in the following areas: - extracranial cerebrovascular testing - visceral vascular testing - peripheral venous testing - peripheral arterial testing this reaccreditation demonstrates the clinic's ongoing commitment to providing quality care in vascular testing. early detection of life threatening heart disorders, stroke and other diseases is possible through the use of vascular testing procedures. novant health sleep center in winston salem, nc achieved accreditation in the third quarter of 2016 from the accreditation commission for health care. the accreditation lasts for three years. novant health oncology received certification in the fourth quarter of 2016 from the american society of quality assurance recognized 133 medical group clinics with level 3 patient-centered medical home (pcmh) status. in this model of care, a physician-led team of nurses, apcs, pharmacists, social workers and medical assistants (cmas) collaborate to ensure that every patient receives appropriate preventive and medical care, education and support. earning pcmh recognition supports many medical group initiatives including: -diabetes and heart/stroke recognition programs -improving same-day access -performance measurement and quality improvement -team-based care and population health hyperbaric oxygen therapy involves the use of 100 percent oxygen administered in a pressurized chamber at levels higher than atmospheric pressure. the patients receive about 10 times as much oxygen in each breath as is normally present in air. this higher concentration of oxygen is dissolved directly in the blood and promotes wound healing in tissues that have poor circulation, such as diabetic foot wounds and in tissues that have been injured during radiation treatment for cancer. at the time, wound care & hyperbaric medicine was the only uhms-accredited facility in the triad area and one of five in north carolina. - the novant health st. jude affiliate clinic became the first federally funded pediatric hemophilia treatment center (htc) in charlotte in april. all children with bleeding a concurrent electronic health record (ehr) initiative is being undertaken by both the acute and ambulatory facilities in the novant health system. in july 2013, novant health medical group finalized the implementation of the ehr in all physician practices across the novant health system. many novant health facilities have successfully implemented the ehr and clinicians can now share patients' medical information between physician offices, outpatient centers, and hospitals. this sharing of information improves safety and coordination of care and promotes connectivity and communication between hospital caregivers, specialists and primary care providers. embarking on the journey to create a shared ehr is the most significant and important investment novant health has ever made for its patients, staff and physicians. also in 2015, the organization successfully transitioned to icd-10 - a revised coding system that tracks many new diagnoses. novant health also continued to implement the use of \"mychart,\" a free online tool offered through the ehr that allows patients to access their health information, communicate with the physicians via email, schedule appointments and refill prescriptions. by the end of 2015, more than 544,000 patients were enrolled in mychart, which is more than 70% of patients treated by the medical group in the greater charlotte and winston-salem markets. as a result, over 55,000 patient appointments were scheduled with medical group providers through mychart over the 12 month period. in 2015, novant health medical group also expanded its use of e-visits and video visits, which provided patients with other options for care at an affordable price. as a result, more than 4,000 e-visits were conducted by the end of 2015. awards, recognitions & certifications/re-certifications novant health medical group physician clinics are also leading new developments in how health services will be delivered in the future. more than 120 clinics are recognized by the national committee for quality assurance as a level 3 patient-centered medical home (pcmh). in this model of care, a physician-led team of nurses, physicians' assistants and others collaborate to ensure that every patient receives appropriate preventive and medical care, education and support. earning pcmh recognition supports many medical group initiatives including: - meaningful use - diabetes and heart/stroke recognition programs - improving same-day access - performance measurement and quality improvement - team-based care and population health the north carolina department of labor (ncdol) recognized 167 novant health medical group clinics and departments with awards for their safety performance in 2015. department of labor commissioner cherie berry presented the awards at a ceremony in winston-salem. the awards were for achieving standards of the north american industry classification system and are part of a program that the ncdol sponsors to recognize firms throughout north carolina that achieve and maintain outstanding safety records. accreditation novant health medical group clinics associated with accredited hospitals in our system have been fully accredited by the joint commission, an independent organization that evaluates a healthcare organization's performance in areas that most affect patient health and safety. in 2015, cola, the premier clinical laboratory education, consultation, and accreditation organization, awarded 46 novant health medical group clinic labs with perfect scores for their inspections. another 22 novant health medical group clinic labs participated in clinical laboratory improvement amendments inspections and received 100% ratings with no deficiencies. reaffirming novant health's commitment to providing the best in breast cancer care, several novant health medical group clinics earned reaccreditation by the national accreditation program for breast centers in 2015. in addition, novant health cancer care facilities in winston-salem and charlotte achieved star program certification from oncology rehab partners. this certification reinforces novant health's commitment to offer premier cancer rehab and survivorship services to patients facing life-limiting side effects caused by cancer or its treatment. to achieve this certification, a multidisciplinary pool of
