community members. in 2018, nhtmc continued to partner with area lions clubs to offer free spot screenings (noninvasive eye screening) to assist community members in receiving appropriate eye care. these screenings were offered free of charge monthly at davidson medical ministries in lexington and thomasville, nc, area schools and at health fairs. nhtmc donated aeds to the baptist children's home of nc to ensure that all cottages on the campus have working aeds. complimentary blood pressure machines were provided at the thomasville, lexington and archdale-trinity, nc ymcas for community use during hours the centers are open. nhtmc launched the first baby cafe in north carolina in january 2018. baby cafe is a free, drop-in gathering for pregnant and breastfeeding women in the community to receive breastfeeding help and support from lactation consultants to meet their breastfeeding goals. since opening the cafe, a second cafe held in the evening has also opened for those organization successfully transitioned to icd-10 - a revised coding system that tracks many new diagnoses. nhtmc added the davinci robotic system state of the art technology equipment which allows doctors to perform many types of complex procedures with more precision, flexibility and control than is possible with conventional techniques. in addition, the hospital opened a pain management clinic offering a wide range of therapies to not only identify the cause of pain but also minimize its effects. the family patient advisory committee was honored with the 2015 family patient engagement award and led the novant health system in establishing such committees in other facilities. in conjunction with our recertification for disease specific certification for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (copd) from the joint commission in 2015, a patient navigator program was added to assist patients during their hospital stay and post discharge in managing their copd. copd is the third leading cause of death in the united states. the navigator is provided at no charge to assist patients in better understanding their copd, including medications, dietary exercise, and to improve overall quality of life and reduce hospitalizations. nhtmc experienced tremendous growth in services and programing this past year to help meet the growing healthcare demands of those we serve. we also added a number of physicians and midlevel practitioners, as well as opened new locations across the county to increase access to healthcare for community members. awards, quality compliance with the medicare conditions of participation. in addition, we have earned some of the nation's top honors in quality care, including chest pain center accreditation, sleep center
