Worked with our City to renovate all downtown lighting to led, pedestrian oriented lights. From an appearance standpoint Main Street leads the effort to install 36 planters annually and in 2019 Main Street contributed to the beautification of and improvement of 2 public parking lots. An annual effort of our program is Holiday Lightening on downtown building, in 2019 we conducted significant maintenance efforts on this system. In an effort to capitalize on our unique historic nature we have been part of three building renovation planning processes that have included Historic Tax Credit considerations and consultation with historic rehabilitation professionals and State Historical Society officials. We shared this unique architectural and downtown history with our community with two walking tours in 2019 with a total of around 100 attendees. Building maintenance is a growing concern. 2019 saw increased efforts by Main Street to communicate with property owners about maintenance concerns and ways to properly address issues. We also went through an advisory process with the City as they moved to enact new property ordinances that attemp to get aheard of dilapidation.\n\nEconomic Restructuring: Mission are now home to over 170 businesses. Mission area had 20 improvement projects completed with and estimated 1.2 million in improvements made. The small business community grew by 7 shops in our district. 2019 allowed us to work with dozens of start-ups, existing businesses and those considering bringing or starting a company to downtown Beatrice. We have helped develop business plans, cashflow projections, evaluate rental property and improvement projects. We connected with one business to provide gap financing for a building improvement and business expansion project In addition we met with three other parties to evaluate if financing our program would be the right fit. Outside of direct business growth efforts we have been working to push our Cities development of River Access points to create new economic opportunities for our district and community and have been successful in getting a plan advanced. We have worked strongly to include downtown in our communities efforts to provide quality and affordable housing and have been part of a new Housing Study process that has a specific section on downtown's role. We began efforts with the Nebraska Cooperative Development Center to be a pilot community in exploring a cooperative property investment group. We held a stakeholder meeting with downtown businesses to discuss and advance strategies to better market our downtown specifically with the goal of further creating a destination for dining and entertainment commerce.\n\nPromotions: We seek to promote our downtown as a central destination for our community. We promote area businesses and community happenings with an active social media presence. By the end of the year we had well over 4,000 likes/follows and consistently reach over 2,000 people a week. In addition to social media, Main Street Beatrice rolled out a new website that highlights local businesses, community events, available property, business resources and more. We host several events to boost people's experiences in our downtown and community. These included Chocolate Lovers with 200 participants. Preservation Month Activities around 500 participants. Farmers Market with around 6,000 customers. Ribfest around 1,200 participants, Summer Events with around 400 participants. Night of the Great Pumpkin with around 3000 participants, Holiday Season activities around 3,000 participants. From an appearance standpoint Main Street installs 36 flower planters every year. In 2020 we conducted significant maintenance efforts on our holiday lighting system. We began planning for a large expansion and replacement effort on our Holiday lighting. In an effort to capitalize on our unique historic nature we have been part of building renovation planning processes that have included Historic Tax Credit considerations and consultation with historic rehabilitation professionals and State Historical Society officials. Installed a mural on a blank wall in our downtown. This begins our efforts to bring art to our downtown to create tourism. Informed property owners about City of Beatrice sidewalk grant program to address our hollow sidewalks. Our public interactions with people were curtailed by Covid-19\n\nEconomic Restructuring: Mission area is now home to over 175 businesses. Our 2020 focus was on providing support to our businesses to help them through the Covid-19 crisis. Sent weekly email updates on grant opportunities, rules for businesses from the State of Nebraska, rules from our local government, information on safety. Created a weekly Facebook live session with other economic development groups in our community to provide up to date information and to answer questions. Made phone calls to help individual businesses through Covid-19 relief and regulations. Even with Covid-19 we helped individuals create business plans, cashflow projections, evaluate rental property. Outside of direct business growth efforts we have been working to push our Cities development of River Access points to create new economic opportunities for our district and community and have been successful in getting a plan advanced. We have worked strongly to include downtown in our communities efforts to provide quality and affordable housing and have been part of a new Housing Study process that has a specific section on downtown's role. We continued efforts with the Nebraska Cooperative Development Center to be a pilot community in exploring a cooperative property investment group. This effort was paused when Covid-19 stopped in-person meetings. We created marketing mini-grants to help businesses through covid-19\n\nPromotions: We seek to promote our downtown as a central destination for our community. We promote area businesses and community happenings with an active social media presence. By the end of the year we had well over 4,000 likes/follows and consistently reach over 2,000 people a week. We normally host several events to boost people's experiences in our downtown and community. Most of these events were curtailed by Covid-19. We held Chocolate Lovers in February with 200 participants. Preservation Month Activities with tours had to be cancelled. Farmers Market was held weekly from May to October since it was an outdoor event. Covid-19 restrictions and rules were in place. There were fewer vendors and customers with around 4,000 customers. Ribfest, our other Summer Events, Night of the Great Pumpkin and most of our Holiday Season activities had to be cancelled. We did participate in Small Business Saturday to help our local businesses. In an effort to capitalize on our unique historic nature we have been part of building renovation planning processes that have included Historic Tax Credit considerations and consultation with historic rehabilitation professionals and State Historical Society officials. Started planning on public art for two alleys. This continues our efforts to bring art to our downtown to create tourism. Worked with building owners to apply for $400,000 facade and 2nd floor reuse grant.\n\nEconomic Restructuring: Mission area is now home to over 175 businesses. Our 2022 focus was on providing continued support to our businesses to recover from the Covid-19 crisis. Sent email updates on grant opportunities and other economic opportunities. Made direct visits to business. Held two entrepreneurial workshops. Met with business owners to help them strengthen their marketing programs. We helped individuals create business plans, cashflow projections, evaluate rental property. We have worked strongly to include downtown in our communities efforts to provide quality and affordable housing and have been part of a new Housing Study process that has a specific section on downtown's role. We continued efforts with the Nebraska Cooperative Development Center to be a pilot community in exploring a cooperative property investment group. We worked with a company to create a branding and marketing plan for the downtown.\n\nPromotions: We seek to promote our downtown as a central destination for our community. We promote area businesses and community happenings with an active social media presence. By the end of the year we had well over 4,000 likes/follows and consistently reach over 2,000 people a week. We normally host several events to boost people's experiences in our downtown and community. We held Chocolate Lovers February with 150 participants. Preservation Month Activities with tours were help in May . Farmers Market was held weekly from May to October. There were an average of 15 vendors and 6,000 customers. Ribfest- our summer event during our Cities Homestead Days Celebration had 1,800 people in attendance. Night of the Great Pumpkin had over 1,200 kids and 3,000 participated.
