Lost and stray pets are brought by animal control officers to our facility where they are scanned for a microchip and/or a collar or identification tag in an effort to locate the owners. A total of 57% of all dogs and 6% of cats are rehomed through our services. Lost pet websites are searched and postings are made on various lost pet sites by volunteers and staff. Pets that are not reclaimed by their owners are placed up for adoption. If pets are reclaimed by their owners, administrative and boarding fees are charged to the owners of those pets. If pets that are unwanted or unable to be cared for by their owners are relinquished and accepted into our adoption program, a relinquishment fee is paid by the owner of the pet.\n\nThe volunteer program in 2010 provided 12,653 hours of service to our organization, an increase of 56% over last year.
