Providing nutrition services, social & leisure activities, cognitive stimulation, and health promotion allows individuals to remain independent in their homes and reduces the expense of long-term care thus lowering lower health care costs. Experts estimate the cost to keep someone in their home with home and community based services to be approximately $6,000 per year versus over $50,000 for long term care. Witwer center serves over 26% linn county medicaid eligible meal participants.healthy aging programs: the healthy aging program model is designed to assist in maintaining optimal, physical, mental, and social well-being and function in older adults. The witwer center's coordinated over 2,400 \"aging in place\" activities and programs throughout eleven linn county dining sites and residential living areas for 2,408 active older adults. Program design supports promoting healthy aging through education and behavior modification at the individual level, as well as supportive environments at the community level. Evidenced based health interventions are a major component of the strategy to decrease health risks and reduce social isolation. Research has demonstrated community based services assist older adults to remain active and healthy throughout the aging process decreasing costs of long term care.
