school through high school, to help them develop life-skills that can transform their lives. through in-school goal-setting workshops, theater and outdoor experiences, and college tours and planning services, students learn to make informed choices and plan for meaningful futures. we believe in all young people and the power they have to build a positive future for themselves. serving the whole child over time, from 6th grade through 12th grade, we help them develop the skills, support, grit, confidence and motivation to set and achieve their goals and graduate with plans for their futures. we work with each student in every school we serve, monthly for up to seven years, in the language arts classroom during the school day, as well as after school, evenings, weekends and summers, building deep and trusting relationships with students and families. we do this through interlinked programming that is delivered continuously for as many as seven years of their lives: - monthly goal-setting workshops in every english/language arts classroom for every student; - professional theater experiences, offered at least 8 and up to 12 times annually, to all students and their families; and - enrichment experiences such as college tours, artistic experiences, boundary waters canoe area adventures and one-on-one post-secondary planning support. our innovative approach is proven to help students become successful, productive adults. this year we will work with nearly 12,000 students in 6th through 12th grade in the minneapolis and saint paul public schools. for more than 20 years, project success has developed strong and enduring partnerships with students, families, schools, districts, theaters, funders, and the community, founded on high integrity, strong programming, and a proven curriculum. the project success program complements the work of teachers and counselors by enhancing the core curriculum and creating long-term relationships with students over seven years. our evidence-based practices and innovative approaches help bridge achievement and motivational gaps by helping students build essential noncognitive skills in academic behaviors, perseverance and mindsets as well as social skills and learning strategies. project success meets young people where they are without judgment, using outcomes-based in-school programming. we provide a unique, multi-year support system that builds relationships with students over time, both in and out of school. our independently evaluated program has achieved statistically significantly higher results for students of color and for students from schools located in disadvantaged neighborhoods. 8 in 10 high school students report that project success helps them create a plan for after graduation.","year":2013,"name":"PROJECT SUCCESS","phone":6128741777,"website":"WWW.PROJECTSUCCESS.ORG","type":"990","affiliation":null,"foreign_countries":null,"principal_officer":"ADRIENNE about the future, helps them take steps to get there and gives them the tools they need to achieve their goals. Our vision is that every child entering middle school will graduate high school with a plan for their future and have the skills and confidence that will take them through the rest of their lives. innovative approach: project success is a catalyst for self-discovery that ignites possibility with students. we invest deeply in youth because we believe the key to success exists within each individual if empowered to unlock it. our proven methodology inspires deeper engagement from students, increases academic performance, and sets the stage for future success. since 1994, project success (ps) has been connecting students to their purpose through proven methodology of experiential learning called dig. dig is identified by three strategic objectives for students, grades 6-12: dream big: this phase opens minds. championing boundless thinking and risk-taking to empower trust in oneself and others. ps helps students create purposeful futures, helping them unlock opportunities that express their true authentic selves by imagining the possibilities, making sense of their choices, and having fun along the way. ignite possibilities: this phase connects to ideas. teaching the value of successes and failures to embolden critical thinking and understanding. from 6th to 12th grade, ps is a trusted companion in students' lives. engaging in experiential learning is an invitation to learn, be immersed in new perspectives, and exposed to new challenges. students get to know themselves - and the world around them - better. grow exponentially: this phase moves to action. preparing promising futures via unique resources - to expand one's personal vision. over seven years, students gain the information and tools to grow broadly and deeply. through dig, students build the agency, competencies and integrated identity research has shown that young adults need to fulfill their goals. for three decades and counting, hundreds of thousands of students have benefited from project success and our proven methodology, dig - advancing self-fulfilling futures for youth in minneapolis, mankato and beyond. curriculum: dig is fulfilled through a proprietary curriculum of four components: workshops: in-class activities guide cumulative development for students, gaining tools, purpose, and confidence. each month, a ps facilitator guides experiential programming that complements the students' academic work. annually, 17,000 students in minneapolis and mankato area public schools participate in in-class workshops. arts: theater experiences create a springboard for discussion, inviting risk-taking and possibility. observing live theater performances and participating in staged productions gives students a window into the performing arts, from front of stage to behind the scenes. annually, 9,000 students and their families attend live theater and other arts experiences. expeditions: adventure trips to colleges, workplaces, cities, and nature settings open new perspectives for one's potential in the world. supervised trips (locally to globally) are purposefully planned based on students' interests, availability and need. more than 3,000 students experience outdoor field trips, bwca and apostle island trips, college and career tours, and global experiences. institute: certificates and other programs build critical life and career skills that enrich one's independence. participating in out-of-school courses and events led by diverse and experienced content experts satisfies students' interests and provides relevant skills for the future. annually, more than 1,000 students participate in institute programming including certificates, career pathways, and the best buy teen tech center at project success. nearly all programming is offered at no cost to students and families. for the few programs that include a fee, students can apply for fee scholarships. while other programs are available, barriers to access them -- trust, time, transportation, childcare, meals, language, cost, selection criteria, relevancy and learning differences -- have made it more challenging for students to participate. ps specializes in dismantling barriers that hold inequities in place - perceived and real - so students are more likely to show up. our participants have told us so. key accomplishments 2024-2025: 1. expanded career-connected learning: five nights of weekly institute programming at headquarters, and new career tours and pathways programs 2. academic credit opportunities: more students earning high school and college credit through ps programs 3. geographic expansion: successfully extended services to mankato area public schools (maps) for a full school year, increasing minnesota access 4. organizational strength: decrease in staff turnover, increased internal promotions, and stronger retention 5. infrastructure investment & accessibility: completed headquarters renovations, including a new elevator connecting three renovated student learning spaces and creating an accessible campus 6. enhanced sustainability: as of 2025, project success now fully owns its headquarters campus at 1 groveland terrace with a transformative gift that allowed us to close our mortgage. this building is not simply an administrative headquarters - it is a transformational space for the students in our community. fully owning our headquarters campus allows us to provide inclusive and accessible environments for learning, mentoring, and community connection while eliminating rent, reducing operational inefficiencies, and reinvesting resources into student supports like transportation and multilingual learning. since launching the ps institute in 2017 with 23 students, the space has grown into a thriving hub that now works with more than 1,000 students annually onsite, as part of our broader reach of 17,000 across minneapolis and mankato. impact: for today's students to stay in school, prepare for post-secondary success, and develop the durable skills needed for adulthood, they need more caring, adult support to encourage them and facilitate their future planning and skill development and equitable access to experiences of excellence that help them make those connections and plan and prepare for that transition. project success closes this gap by providing equitable access to meaningful experiences and highly trained adult support over time for all minneapolis public schools (mps) 6th-12th grade students and all mankato area public schools (maps) 6th-8th grade students. project success leverages large-scale data analysis from the university of minnesota's center for applied research and educational improvement (carei) and minneapolis public schools (mps) to validate our life-changing results, particularly for historically underserved student populations. our demographic outcomes-75% bipoc and 72% low-income participation-surpass school-level representation, demonstrating that we reach and engage those students most impacted by systemic barriers. 1. enhancing future planning and motivation: -89% of minneapolis middle school students reported that project success \"helped me think about my future\". -89% of high school students rated project success ahead of friends, counselors, and teachers in assisting with future planning, second only to parents or guardians. -90% of students report that project success helps them set goals and create a plan for after graduation, with 96% of teachers agreeing. 2. improved academic engagement, particularly for students of color: -students of color participating in project success were 8% more likely to attend high school than non-participants, indicating an increase in motivation. -85% of mps students who participate in project success are on track to graduate, surpassing district averages. -african american and latino students participating in college tours and musicals show up to a 26% gpa increase over four years. 3. cultivating belonging and durable skills: -over half (54%) of teachers believed project success positively impacted student relationships with teachers. -71% of teachers observed a positive impact on student relationships with other students, building supportive community and addressing the widespread crisis of belonging. -internal evaluations demonstrate that our programs foster critical durable skills highly valued in the 21st-century workforce, such as analytical thinking, creative thinking, leadership, resilience, flexibility, adaptability, curiosity, self-awareness, motivation, empathy, and active listening. carei reported that our program garners vision is that every child entering middle school will graduate high school with a plan for their future and have the skills and resilience that will take them through the rest of their lives. minnesota faces very real inequities between students' access to developmental experiences and relationships that prepare them for future success. since 1994, project success (ps) has helped more than 100,000 students dream big and dig deep into discovering their potential through a model of experience learning that is unique nationally in methodology, scale and access and proven to help students build the skills and relationships needed to increase academic engagement and prepare for success in life, college and career. methodology: over the course of 7 years - from 6th through 12th grade - we engage students and their families in- and outside of class with: 1) a curriculum designed for whole-child development; 2) developmental experiences through the arts, expeditions and certificates; and 3) mentorship with caring, professional, culturally competent, diverse educators called \"facilitators\". the relationships we build with students and families - sometimes for seven or more years - allows us to reach students that may otherwise fall through the 'cracks,' especially during times of uncertainty. scale: ps has developed strong school partnerships that allow us to work with each student at 26 minneapolis public schools (mps), totaling nearly 16,000 students. ps is the only mps community partner given time on a regular monthly basis to conduct programming (our goal-setting workshops) with each student in every english, special education (sped), and english learner (el) classroom. in fact, we are the only organization that works with nearly an entire district's middle and high school student population. access: while other programs are available, barriers to access them -time, transportation, childcare, meals, language, cost, selection criteria, cultural and religious practices, and cognitive, behavioral and physical differences - have made it more challenging for students and families to participate. we specialize in addressing and eliminating barriers and providing a welcoming, inclusive environment so students are more likely to show up, and we reach students other programs may not. our participants have told us so. project success programming positively impacts academic engagement and achievement and readiness for life, college and career through our work in three areas: *social and emotional skill development: ps students build an integrated identity with self-awareness and regulation, knowledge and skills, positive mindsets and core values that are critical to their academic success and life and career readiness. *school connectedness: students are more likely to engage in healthy behaviors and succeed academically when they feel connected to school and the academic work they are expected to do. ps students connect what they are doing in school with their own goals and dreams, therefore developing a stronger commitment to learning. *access to developmental experiences: students learn better and more when they have a rich variety of opportunities through which to grow and develop skills, knowledge and a sense of purpose. ps students develop greater competency and the ability to make choices about and take an active role in their own life paths. independent evaluations by the university of minnesota center for applied research and educational improvement (carei) report that: *91% of middle school students in project success indicated the program \"helped me think about my future and 88% said the program \"helped me to set goals.\" *90% of high school students said project success \"helped me create a plan for after graduation.\" *when asked who \"assisted you in future planning,\" 89% of high school students rated project success ahead of friends, counselors and teachers and second only to parents or guardians. *88% teachers report that project success helps students to be more self-aware of their strengths, work better with peers, be more motivated to succeed in school, and set goals for the future. *90% of alumni report that project success helped them to be better problem solvers, more motivated to succeed in school, be more self-directed, evaluate progress toward goals, and create a plan for after graduation. the carei evaluation also reports that project success programming has a statistically significantly higher impact for students of color and for students from schools located in neighborhoods with high economic disparity. data analysis by minneapolis public schools proves that the more students participate in project success' innovative experience learning opportunities (i.E. \"dosage\"), the greater the impact it has on their academic engagement and achievement. \"project success works. we see statistically significant positive gains in on-time graduation rates, attendance and most importantly grade point average, which is the greatest predictor of future success.\"- eric moore, senior accountability, research and equity officer, minneapolis public schools in march 2020, the covid-19 pandemic triggered a stay-at-home order from minnesota governor tim walz, drastically changing how our teachers and project success could deliver curriculum, but the nature of our program objectives and activities remained aligned and continued the work we had carried out in previous months. since the start of distance learning (dl) for mps students in april 2020, ps remained steadfast in our mission by creating a dynamic virtual environment for our students - including interactive college and career exploration, and certificate courses through the institute. most mps students were in dl through march 2021- some remained in dl for the entire school year - and ps has been there all along the way, delivering programming to more than 15,000 middle and high school students in 26 minneapolis public schools. building purchase: project success has called 1 groveland terrace home since 2010, when the organization began leasing the 3rd floor and serving 10,000 students. as project success marked the 10-year anniversary serving students in the building, with programs continuing to expand to meet demand and increase impact, and with the institute at full capacity, we began to explore creating a permanent home for project success. thanks to specific capital project support from a key group of donors, ps was able to make this dream come true without having to pull funding from student programming. project success took over ownership of the building in july 2021. building ownership allows ps to: *continue to elevate and grow the popular institute programs, student workshops and programs hosted in the building, providing more space for students to learn, connect, and grow *continue to provide an easy-to-access location in the center of the city, near major transportation lines *make improvements in the years to come that focus on continually improving accessibility, being environmentally friendly, and ensuring the space is a welcoming space for all *improve infrastructure and spaces for staff and student use","year":2020,"name":"PROJECT and gives them the tools they need to achieve their goals. schedule o: expanded mission statement of organization project success is a youth-development organization that works with students over a seven-year period, from middle school through high school, to help them build confidence, develop critical 21st century skills, and graduate with plans for their futures. our vision is that every child entering middle school will graduate high school with a plan for their future and have the skills and confidence that will take them through the rest of their lives. project success believes in all young people and the power they have to build a positive future for themselves. we meet young people where they are without judgment, using outcomes-based in- and out-of-school time programming. serving the whole child over time, from 6th grade through 12th grade, we work with each student in every school we serve, at least monthly for up to seven years, in their language arts classrooms during the school day, as well as after school, evenings, weekends and summers, building deep and trusting relationships with students and families. we do this through interlinked programming using a proven curriculum that is delivered continuously for as many as seven years of their lives, including the following activities: - monthly goal-setting workshops in every english/language arts classroom for every student and one-on-one post-secondary planning support. - professional theater experiences, offered at least 8 and up to 12 times annually, to all students and their families. - experiential learning opportunities such as college tours, student performances, artist residencies, and outdoor/wilderness experiences outside of school time. this year, we will deliver programming to nearly 12,000 students in 15 minneapolis public middle and high schools. our innovative and inclusive long-term model is proven to help students become successful, productive adults. we provide time and space for facilitated discussion and exploration to help kids discover who they are and what they want out of life so they can build the connection between academic persistence now and success in meeting their goals in the future. project success programming positively impacts academic engagement and achievement and post-secondary readiness through our work in three areas: 1. metacognitive skill development: skills such as grit, tenacity and perseverance. these skills are critical to academic success and career readiness. 2. school connectedness: students are more likely to engage in healthy behaviors and succeed academically when they feel connected to school. 3. arts access and education: students with high levels of arts involvement are significantly more likely to graduate from high school and to obtain a college degree. for more than 22 years, project success has developed strong and enduring partnerships with students, families, schools, districts, theaters, funders, and the community, founded on high integrity, strong programming, and a proven curriculum. our independently evaluated program has achieved statistically significant higher results for students of color and for students from schools located in disadvantaged neighborhoods. nine in ten high school students report that project success helps them create a plan for after graduation. project success works. it helps support our efforts in closing the achievement gaps. we see statistically significant positive gains in on-time graduation rates, attendance and most importantly grade point average. eric moore, director of research, evaluation and assessment, minneapolis public schools","year":2014,"name":"PROJECT vision: project success motivates and inspires young people to dream about the future, helps them take steps to get there and gives them the tools they need to achieve their goals. our vision is that every child entering middle school will graduate high school with a plan for their future and have the skills and confidence that will take them through the rest of their lives. impact: since 1994, project success (ps) has empowered 200,000+ students to discover their potential. spanning 6th to 12th grade, our staff guides students through a curriculum of activities, designed to facilitate their growth and development over time and prepare for life after high school. curriculum: through project success, students experience a proven curriculum to help them prepare for their futures. clear social and emotional learning and future planning objectives are built into the curriculum, incorporated into all ps activities listed below. curriculum objectives are grade-specific and cumulative (6-12 grade). it includes lessons - or \"workshops\" delivered by our professional and diverse staff called \"facilitators\" through activities that occur both in- and outside the classroom, and includes activities in four key areas: in-class monthly workshops - delivered in english, english learner or special ed classes, students have time and support to plan for their futures. arts - professional theater experiences, residencies and student musicals are powerful ways to inspire expression, connection, and discussion. expeditions -- college and career tours, outdoor adventures, and global exploration inspire growth, discovery, and possibilities. institute - after-school certificate courses help students explore career paths and build portable skills. innovative approach: project success is uniquely positioned to meet the needs of young people through \"dig or dream, ignite grow -- our exclusive methodology for program delivery. ps has developed an innovative, culturally responsive experience learning model that is proven to help students build the agency, integrated identity and competencies needed to increase their academic engagement and develop important skills research* has shown to be essential in successfully navigating life and career after high school. some of the defining aspects of dig include: 1. developmental relationships: students build trusting relationships over time with our facilitators and other program staff who are highly trained in culturally responsive teaching, ensuring that we acknowledge and value the cultural backgrounds, identities, and ancestral knowledge of each student. students and ps alumni have shared that ps staff support has helped them feel more confident, explore opportunities outside of their \"comfort zone,\" understand and practice how to create and act on a plan to achieve goals, and persist in achieving their goals. 2. large-scale partnerships: our strong school and district partnerships allow us to work with each 6-12 grade student attending minneapolis public schools (mps), totaling more than 15,000 students. ps is the only mps community partner given class time on a regular monthly basis with each student in every english, special education, and english learner classroom. facilitating this large-scale operation requires meticulous operational systems, a facet we have diligently developed and honed. these systems underpin our ability to effectively deliver personalized support while maintaining the scope and impact that come with serving a diverse student population. 3. radical access: while other programs do exist, barriers to access them -- trust, time, transportation, childcare, meals, language, cost, selection criteria, relevancy and learning differences -- have made it more challenging for students to participate. we believe deeply in the power of dismantling barriers that hold inequities in place -- perceived and real, so students are more likely to show up and able to fully participate. *\"foundations for young adult success, a developmental framework\" by jenny nagaoka, camille a. farrington, stacy b. erlich, and ryan d. heath with david w. johnson, sarah dickson, ashley cureton turner, ashley mayo and kathleen hayes at the university of chicago consortium on chicago school research. project success programming positively impacts academic engagement and achievement and readiness for life, college and career through our work in three areas: social and emotional skill development: ps students build an integrated identity with self-awareness and regulation, knowledge and skills, positive mindsets and core values that are critical to their academic success and life and career readiness. school connectedness: students are more likely to engage in healthy behaviors and succeed academically when they feel connected to school and the academic work they are expected to do. ps students connect what they are doing in school with their own goals and dreams, therefore developing a stronger commitment to learning. developmental experience learning opportunities: students learn better and more when they have a rich variety of opportunities through which to grow and develop skills, knowledge and a sense of purpose. ps students develop greater competency and the ability to make choices about and take an active role in their own life paths. independent evaluations by the university of minnesota center for applied research and educational improvement (carei) report that project success programming has a statistically significantly higher impact for students of color and for students from schools located in neighborhoods with high economic disparity. data analysis by minneapolis public schools proves that the more students participate in project success' innovative experience learning opportunities (i.E. \"dosage\"), the greater the impact it has on their academic engagement and achievement. \"project success works. we see statistically significant positive gains in on-time graduation rates, attendance and most importantly grade point average, which is the greatest predictor of future success.\"- eric moore, former senior accountability, research and equity officer, minneapolis public schools according to the centers for disease control and prevention the number of adolescents reporting poor mental health is increasing. these feelings were found to be more common among lgbtq+ students, female students and students across racial and ethnic groups. black students were more likely to attempt suicide than students of other races and ethnicities. poor mental health can impact many areas of a teen's life. youth with poor mental health may struggle with school and grades, decision making, and their health. ps provides young people with caring, adult support and opportunities - in and out of school - that help them develop the skills, tools and experience learning opportunities they need to prepare for the challenges ahead, envision their future with hope and expanding possibilities, and thrive in school, work and life. researchers have found that students who are high in hope have greater academic success, stronger friendships, and demonstrate more creativity and better problem-solving. they also have lower levels of depression and anxiety and are less likely to drop out of school. ps is working hard to continue to innovate and adapt to meet students' changing needs, particularly for our students of color, low-income students and students with disabilities. through ps, students hope, they dream, they focus on their futures, and they build the resilience and perseverance to achieve their goals. what's new this year: ps is now partnering with mps contract alternative schools to provide opportunities for students to recover credit needed to graduate. during the 2022-23 school year, 40 students earned credit through ps programs. in february 2022, project success launched a new 3-year strategic plan (2022-2025), which is guiding new growth and expansion across the organization. key priorities within the plan include: expand our program reach, develop our strong team and culture, build a new sustainable financial model, and continuously evaluate for program evolution. alongside this strategic plan process, a team of ps staff and board worked together in our i.D.E.A. framework (inclusion, diversity, equity, access), with an emphasis on racial equity. ps is setting goal within four areas - policies, partners, programs and people - with a commitment to continuous improvement and evaluation of our efforts.","year":2022,"name":"PROJECT faces very real inequities between students' access to developmental experiences and relationships that prepare them for future success. since 1994, project success has helped 100,000 students dream big and dig deep into discovering their potential through a proven model of experiential learning. beginning in 6th grade and continuing through 12th grade, our caring professional staff support and engage students inside and outside their classrooms with the following program components: \"curriculum - clear developmental objectives for students are built into each experience \"arts - theater is powerful way to inspire self-expression, connection, and discussion \"expeditions - local to global expeditions inspire growth, discovery, and open doors to possibility \"certificates - students develop skills, knowledge, and career options in key subjects together, these components - delivered within project success' proven methodology - inspire thousands of students each year to dream big, ignite possibilities and grow into inspired individuals ready for success. through project success, young people develop critical social and emotional skills, gain experiences that broaden their view of the possibilities, and graduate with actionable plans for their futures. our vision is that every child entering middle school will graduate high school with a plan for their future and have the skills and resilience that will take them through the rest of their lives. during the 2018-19 school year, we delivered programming to more than 14,000 students in 19 minneapolis public middle and high schools. for more than 25 years, project success has been working with thousands of students to help them dream, create plans for their futures, and strengthen their social and emotional skills - all of which are critical to success in school, work and life. our innovative and inclusive long-term model is proven to help students know themselves better (integrated identity), develop a stronger commitment to learning (school connectedness), internalize social skills and their application in multiple contexts (competency) and develops the ability to make choices about and take an active role in their own life paths (agency). our professional, caring staff provides time and space for facilitated discussion and exploration to help students discover who they are and what they want out of life so they can build the connection between academic persistence now and success in meeting their goals in the future. project success programming positively impacts academic engagement and achievement and readiness for college and career through our work in three areas: \"social and emotional skill development: through adult support and our curriculum built and delivered for each project success activity, young people build self-awareness and regulation, knowledge and skills, positive mindsets and core values that are critical to their academic success and career readiness. \"school connectedness: students are more likely to engage in healthy behaviors and succeed academically when they feel connected to school and the academic work they are expected to do. by dreaming and setting goals for the future, they can connect what they are doing in school with their own goals and dreams. \"access to developmental experiences: children learn better when they have a rich variety of opportunities through which to learn. when denied access to those opportunities, they fall behind, and we get the devastating achievement gaps. but when the experiential doors to access open - e.G. through arts, culture, travel, outdoors, wellness - they thrive, and the achievement gaps close. over 25 years, project success has developed strong and enduring partnerships with students, families, schools, districts, theaters, funders, and the community, founded on high integrity, strong programming, and a proven curriculum. nine out of ten high school students report that project success helps them create a plan for after graduation, and data analysis proves that the more students participate in project success' innovative experience learning opportunities, the greater the impact it has on their academic engagement and achievement. our independently evaluated program results demonstrate that project success programming has a statistically significantly higher impact for students of color and for students from schools located in neighborhoods with high economic disparity. \"project success works. we see statistically significant positive gains in on-time graduation rates, attendance and most importantly grade point average, which is the greatest predictor of future success.\"- eric moore, chief of accountability, research and equity, minneapolis public schools in this time of continuing challenges for students, families and schools, project success is committed to doubling its impact on the number of students served and to deepening engagement through new programs and experiences - a program expansion funded by the $10 million dreams to futures campaign. we have already launched many new programs and expanded to serve more students, with additional expansion to come in the next two years. our expanded programs are included in the program description below.","year":2018,"name":"PROJECT mission & vision: project success motivates and inspires young people to dream about the future, helps them take steps to get there and gives them the tools they need to achieve their goals. Our vision is that every child entering middle school will graduate high school with a plan for their future and have the skills and confidence that will take them through the rest of their lives. innovative approach: project success is a catalyst for self-discovery that ignites possibility with students. we invest deeply in youth because we believe the key to success exists within each individual if empowered to unlock it. our proven methodology inspires deeper engagement from students, increases academic performance, and sets the stage for future success. since 1994, project success (ps) has been connecting students to their purpose through proven methodology of experiential learning called dig. dig is identified by three strategic objectives for students, grades 6-12: dream big: this phase opens minds. championing boundless thinking and risk-taking to empower trust in oneself and others. ps helps students create purposeful futures, helping them unlock opportunities that express their true authentic selves by imagining the possibilities, making sense of their choices, and having fun along the way. ignite possibilities: this phase connects to ideas. teaching the value of successes and failures to embolden critical thinking and understanding. from 6th to 12th grade, ps is a trusted companion in students' lives. engaging in experiential learning is an invitation to learn, be immersed in new perspectives, and exposed to new challenges. students get to know themselves - and the world around them - better. grow exponentially: this phase moves to action. preparing promising futures via unique resources - to expand one's personal vision. over seven years, students gain the information and tools to grow broadly and deeply. through dig, students build the agency, competencies and integrated identity research has shown that young adults need to fulfill their goals. for three decades and counting, hundreds of thousands of students have benefited from project success and our proven methodology, dig - advancing self-fulfilling futures for youth in minneapolis and beyond. curriculum: dig is fulfilled through a proprietary curriculum of four components: workshops: in-class activities guide cumulative development for students, gaining tools, purpose, and confidence. each month, a ps facilitator guides experiential programming that complements the students' academic work. annually, 15,000 students participate in in-class workshops. arts: theater experiences create a springboard for discussion, inviting risk-taking and possibility. observing live theater performances and participating in staged productions gives students a window into the performing arts, from front of stage to behind the scenes. annually, 10,000 students and their families attend live theater and other arts experiences. expeditions: adventure trips to colleges, workplaces, cities, and nature settings open new perspectives for one's potential in the world. supervised trips (locally to globally) are purposefully planned based on students' interests, availability and need. more than 3,000 students experience outdoor field trips, bwca and apostle island trips, college and career tours, and global experiences. institute: certificates and other programs build critical life and career skills that enrich one's independence. participating in out-of-school courses and events led by diverse and experienced content experts satisfies students' interests and provides relevant skills for the future. annually, 220 certificates are earned by students through the ps institute. nearly all programming is offered at no cost to students and families. for the few programs that include a fee, students can apply for fee scholarships. while other programs are available, barriers to access them -- trust, time, transportation, childcare, meals, language, cost, selection criteria, relevancy and learning differences -- have made it more challenging for students to participate. ps specializes in dismantling barriers that hold inequities in place - perceived and real - so students are more likely to show up. our participants have told us so. what's new this year: site expansion: project success and mankato area public schools launched a new partnership in january 2024 to bring the ps dig curriculum to the district, including in-class workshops for all 6th and 7th grade students, participating in a career fair for 8th grade students, and providing arts programming for students and families. career pathways program expansion: the project success institute experience significant program growth, adding baking and creative writing to the certificate program, soft opening a best buy teen tech center, and working with english learner students to complete career pathway training and projects in bike tech and solar energy. project success also launched career tours for middle school students, partnering with local businesses including sports management tours with the minnesota twins and minnesota united. transformational gift: project success took significant steps in proactively preparing for a resilient future through securing a transformational gift totaling $7 million that is now part of a strategic reserve. this reserve allows project success to grow and innovate programming with a solid base that will ensure sustainability and continuity during future crises and transitions over the next 5-8 years. impact: for today's students to stay in school, prepare for post-secondary success, and develop the life skills needed for adulthood, they need more caring, adult support to encourage them and facilitate their future planning and skill development and equitable access to experiences of excellence that help them make those connections and plan and prepare for that transition. project success closes this gap by providing equitable access to meaningful experiences and highly trained adult support for all mps 6th-12th grade students. data analysis shows that the more a student participates in ps (i.E., \"dosage\") they are more likely to: form a positive integrated identity - 8 in 10 of students say that ps helps them understand themselves better and 9 in 10 teachers say ps helps students to be more self-aware of their strengths. develop a stronger commitment to learning - ps programs can result in an 8% increase in attendance, gpa, and on-time graduation. broaden their access to resources and opportunities - 9 out of 10 students report that ps helps them set goals and create a plan for after graduation. adopt a reflective practice that encourages critical thinking - 9 in 10 teachers report that ps helps students to be better problem solvers and 8 in 10 alumni report that ps helped them evaluate their progress toward goals. develop agency to make future decisions - 9 in 10 teachers report that ps helps students to be more motivated to set goals for the future and 9 in 10 students report that ps helps them set goals and create a plan for after graduation. three comprehensive independent evaluations from the university of minnesota center for applied research and educational improvement (carei) and data analysis from mps both report that project success programming has the greatest impact on youth of color and for students who live in under-resourced neighborhoods. carei data focuses primarily on the impact of youth-adult relationships and students' personal growth and social emotional wellness. project success is working hard to continue to innovate and adapt to meet students' changing needs, particularly for our students of color, low-income students, and students with disabilities. through ps, students hope, they dream, they focus on their futures, and they build the resilience and perseverance to achieve their goals. in three decades' time, project success has worked with 225,000+ students and counting: alumni who have a deeper understanding of themselves and an authentically personal vision of their future - be it a calling, a career, a curiosity, a meaningful place in life. the impact is cumulative and critical to everyone - to our world.","year":2023,"name":"PROJECT SUCCESS","phone":6128741777,"website":"WWW.PROJECTSUCCESS.ORG","type":"990","affiliation":null,"foreign_countries":null,"principal_officer":"ADRIENNE success exists within each student if empowered to unlock it. our vision is that every child entering middle school will graduate high school with a plan for their future and have the skills and resilience that will take them through the rest of their lives. minnesota faces very real inequities between students' access to developmental experiences and relationships that prepare them for future success. since 1994, project success (ps) has helped 100,000 students dream big and dig deep into discovering their potential through a model of experience learning that is unique nationally in methodology, scale and access and proven to help students build the skills and relationships needed to increase academic engagement and develop important skills needs for success in life, college and career. methodology: over the course of 7 years -- from 6th through 12th grade -- we engage students and their families in- and outside of class with: 1) a curriculum designed for whole-child development; 2) developmental experiences through the arts, expeditions and certificates; and 3) mentorship with caring, professional, culturally competent, diverse educators called \"facilitators\". the trust we build with students and families -- sometimes for seven+ years -- allows us to reach students that may otherwise fall through the 'cracks,' especially during times of uncertainty. scale: ps has developed strong school partnerships that allow us to work with each student at 26 minneapolis public schools (mps), totaling nearly 16,000 students. ps is the only mps community partner given time on a regular monthly basis to conduct programming (our goal-setting workshops) with each student in every english classroom, including special ed., english learners, advanced placement, emotionally/behaviorally disabled, and basic english. since 1994, more than 100,000 students have benefited from ps programs. in fact, we are the only organization that works with nearly an entire district's student population. every year, ps serves 75% of all minneapolis middle and high schools. access: while other programs are available, barriers to access them -- trust, time, transportation, childcare, meals, language, cost, selection criteria, relevancy and cognitive, behavioral and physical differences -- have made it more challenging for students to participate. we specialize in addressing and eliminating barriers -- both perceived and real - so students are more likely to show up, and we reach students other programs may not. our participants have told us so. project success programming positively impacts academic engagement and achievement and readiness for life, college and career through our work in three areas: \" social and emotional skill development: ps students build an integrated identity with self-awareness and regulation, knowledge and skills, positive mindsets and core values that are critical to their academic success and life and career readiness. \" school connectedness: students are more likely to engage in healthy behaviors and succeed academically when they feel connected to school and the academic work they are expected to do. ps students connect what they are doing in school with their own goals and dreams, therefore developing a stronger commitment to learning. \" access to developmental experiences: children learn better and more when they have a rich variety of opportunities through which to grow and develop skills, knowledge and a sense of purpose. ps students develop greater competency and the ability to make choices about and take an active role in their own life paths. independent evaluations by the university of minnesota center for applied research and educational improvement (carei) report that: \" 91% of middle school students in project success indicated the program \"helped me think about my future and 88% said the program \"helped me to set goals.\" \" 90% of high school students said project success \"helped me create a plan for after graduation.\" \" when asked who \"assisted you in future planning,\" 89% of high school students rated project success ahead of friends, counselors and teachers and second only to parents or guardians. \" 88% teachers report that project success helps students to be more self-aware of their strengths, work better with peers, be more motivated to succeed in school, and set goals for the future. \" 90% of alumni report that project success helped them to be better problem solvers, more motivated to succeed in school, be more self-directed, evaluate progress toward goals, and create a plan for after graduation. the carei evaluation also reports that project success programming has a statistically significantly higher impact for students of color and for students from schools located in neighborhoods with high economic disparity. data analysis by minneapolis public schools proves that the more students participate in project success' innovative experience learning opportunities, the greater the impact it has on their academic engagement and achievement. \"project success works. we see statistically significant positive gains in on-time graduation rates, attendance and most importantly grade point average, which is the greatest predictor of future success.\"- eric moore, senior accountability, research and equity officer, minneapolis public schools during the 2019-20 school year, we delivered programming to nearly 16,000 middle and high school students in 26 minneapolis public schools. in this time of continuing challenges for students, families and schools, project success is committed to doubling its impact on the number of students served and to deepening engagement through new programs and experiences - a program expansion funded by the $10 million dreams to futures campaign. we have launched many new programs and expanded to serve more students, with additional expansion to come. our expanded programs are included in the program description below.","year":2019,"name":"PROJECT about the future, helps them take steps to get there and gives them the tools they need to achieve their goals. -internal evaluations demonstrate that our programs foster critical durable skills highly valued in the 21st-century workforce, such as analytical thinking, creative thinking, leadership, resilience, flexibility, adaptability, curiosity, self-awareness, motivation, empathy, and active listening. carei reported that our program garners
