The healthpartners family of exempt organizations seek to be the best and most trusted provider of health care, health promotion, health care financing and health care administration in the united states. Acting in concert, this family of organizations is working to transform health care by delivering outstanding care and service that is consistent with the institute for healthcare improvement's \"triple aim\" initiative. The \"triple aim\" seeks to simultaneously optimize the health of the population, the experience of each individual and reduce per capita health care costs. Ii. 2010 community benefit activities in addition to providing services for ime's supported organizations, ime's accomplishments in 2010 included the following activities. Resident and other professional training. In partnership with the university of minnesota medical school, ime trains approximately 760 medical students and almost 500 resident physicians annually in 20 medical specialties at regions hospital and group health plan, inc.'s clinics (healthpartners clinics). The cost of running the medical education programs was over $19.9 million in 2010. Areas of resident training included: - emergency medicine - foot & ankle surgery - hospital medicine - medical toxicology - occupational medicine - psychiatry (joint program with another area hospital) - physician assistant/nurse practitioner fellowship in behavioral health - managed care pharmacy ime also provided education in eleven additional residency programs from the university of minnesota resident physicians provided care in many high intensity areas of the hospital, including the emergency center, intensive care, surgical suites, and on the patient units. They provided care for patients from underserved and disadvantaged communities. In addition, residents contributed to medical research and the academic environment that sustains regions hospital and healthpartners cutting-edge approach to care. In addition to advancing their education and providing care, residents also served on many committees and teams at regions hospital and the healthpartners clinics. These include the: - ethics committee - graduate medical education (gme) committee - resident forums - core competency planning committee - patient safety and quality initiatives - guest speakers at medical residency coordinator (mrc) course co-sponsored by ime - ime board of directors residents made significant contributions to improving care while on these committees and teams, as well as during their experiences in clinical settings. The regions hospital emergency medicine residency supplements the clinical learning experience with lectures, workshops and procedural skills labs that are open (space permitting) to all residents, faculty, students, alumni, nurses, physician assistants, consultants and others from our residency community to share and discuss new knowledge. In 2010, this included 223 lectures, 47 workshops and 40 procedural skills labs. Achievements and recognition. In 2010, ime co-sponsored a national initiative with the alliance for independent academic medical centers (aiamc) on improving patient care through graduate medical education. Twenty hospitals from across the U.S... Participated in this initiative led and funded by ime. The initiative continues to link quality and medical education, improving the transition of care from the emergency center to inpatient units. Ime continued to be a leader in the development of programs that include the accreditation council for general medical education (acgme) core competencies in resident physician training. In partnership with the university of minnesota medical school, ime trains approximately 1600 students and more than 500 resident physicians annually in 22 programs at regions hospital and group health plan, inc.'s clinics (healthpartners clinics). The cost of running the medical education programs was over $21.5 million in 2011. The cugce also provides oversight for, and ensures compliance with, institutional and program requirements of the accreditation council for graduate medical education (acgme). The cugce further ensures compliance with policies and procedures and manages all operational aspects of the undergraduate and graduate medical education training activities that occur at the various clinics and hospitals within the healthpartners system. The cugce arranges for all clinical rotations and observations for prospective and current students in medical education programs, for physician assistants, nursing, radiation technicians and other allied health professions.
