Our physicians cared for patients at hcmc with approximately 117,000 patient days and 96,070 emergency visits in 2010. Nearly 400 physicians, dentists and other health professionals cared for patients in private, accredited clinics and centers in minneapolis, its suburbs, greater minnesota and western wisconsin. We welcomed more than 20,000 children and adults this year to our hfa clinics for general and specialized care with approximately 365,000 clinic visits. In addition to primary care, we have physicians in every medical specialty to provide the expert care patients need.\n\nTeaching - we trained new doctors in our clinics and the hospital preparing approximately 302 resident physicians for careers in many fields of medicine. Hfa physicians serve as faculty and most hold academic appointments at the university of minnesota medical school, where many have achieved distinction and have been recognized by students and peers alike for their outstanding skills as teachers. Hcmc currently offers eight free-standing residency programs that provide resident physicians with clinical experience in serving a broad mix of patients from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. The amounts reflected represent the expenses and contracted revenue received from hcmc for program and associate program directors. The revenues and expenses associated with the day-to-day training and supervision of residents are difficult to separate from patient care services and thus included in 4a above.\n\nMedical research - research activities on our campus are conducted through the minneapolis medical research foundation (mmrf), a related 501(c)(3) corporation. Hfa physicians contributed approximately 30,400 research hours to mmrf in 2010. There are active research programs in trauma, alternative medicine, cancer, clinical outcomes, chronic fatigue syndrome, children's issues, diabetes and metabolism, foods for well-being, heart disease, hiv/aids, kidney disease, liver and gastrointestinal disease, organ transplantation, sleep disorders, smoking cessation and women's health.\n\nAdministrative services - in connection with its provision of professional medical services, training, and research to hennepin healthcare system, inc.
