An abstract \"footprints to health: follow-up from the wausau school project 6 years later\" was submitted to the aha scientific session program and accepted, and was presented at the aha meeting in chicago on november 15, 2010. Assessing the renal consequences and functional efficacy of low dose hypertonic saline solution and furosemide for the treatment of congestive heart failure in a randomized, double blind, prospective study (reach)- irb approved, enrollment began in october 2009. An interim analysis of this study was conducted in july, 2010, by the data safety monitoring committee. There are currently 48 patients enrolled in this study.the effect of ranolazine on cardiac arrhythmias and microvolt t-wave alternans in patients with significant left ventricular dysfunction- enrolling.multi-center research trialsthe care foundation participated in 19 multi-center projects. Multi-center projects are chosen based on their scientific merit and ability to have immediate applicability to the clinical practice of cardiovascular medicine and provide patients the benefit of improved clinical knowledge.these projects are conducted on an inpatient and/or outpatient basis. For inpatient research, the foundation continues to work in close cooperation with the aspirus wausau hospital and aspirus heart & vascular institute.the care foundation received irb approval to open 3 new multi-center projects in 2010. Educationthe 20th annual winter conference, sponsored by the care foundation was held on february 12, 2010. Over 150 physicians and other health care providers attended the informational lectures and presentations covering topics on cardiovascular medicine and procedures.the care foundation organizes a monthly journal club for area health care providers to meet to discuss research results published in peer-reviewed journals. These sessions encourage discussion, foster ideas for original research, and provide strategies to improve care for patients. Cme credit is provided for each session.the care foundation co-sponsored an \"aware for all research education day\" in conjunction with the aspirus wausau hospital and the aspirus health foundation on november 6, 2010. Sixty-six community members attended this educational event which covered what clinical trials are and how they work, why society needs clinical research and understanding the safety, benefits and risks of clinical research. Resources for this event were provided in part by the center for information study on clinical research participation (ciscrp). The footprints to health project, funded by the uw wisconsin partnership for a healthy future, is in the fifth year of funding. Interventions in seven area school neighborhoods were completed to increase physical activity and improved nutrition choices with children and parents. In addition to the goals of increasing physical activity and improved nutrition choices, the project has a goal to increase the knowledge and use of the clinical overweight and obesity guidelines. AN ABSTRACT TITLED PHARMACOLOGICALLY INDUCED TAKOTSUBO SYNDROME: CLINICAL CHARACTERIZATION WITH IMPLICATIONS FOR TREATMENT AND MECHANISMS WAS SUBMITTED TO THE 61ST ANNUAL SCIENTIFIC SESSION 7 EXPO OF THE AMERICAN COLLEGE OF CARDIOLOGY ON NOVEMBER 21, 2011.MULTI-CENTER RESEARCH TRIALSTHE CARE FOUNDATION PARTICIPATED IN 19 MULTI-CENTER PROJECTS. MULTI-CENTER PROJECTS ARE CHOSEN BASED ON THEIR SCIENTIFIC MERIT AND ABILITY TO HAVE IMMEDIATE APPLICABILITY TO THE CLINICAL PRACTICE OF CARDIOVASCULAR MEDICINE AND PROVIDE PATIENTS THE BENEFIT OF IMPROVED CLINICAL KNOWLEDGE.THESE PROJECTS ARE CONDUCTED ON AN INPATIENT AND/OR OUTPATIENT BASIS. FOR INPATIENT RESEARCH, THE FOUNDATION CONTINUES TO WORK IN CLOSE COOPERATION WITH THE ASPIRUS WAUSAU HOSPITAL AND ASPIRUS HEART & VASCULAR INSTITUTE.THE CARE FOUNDATION RECEIVED IRB APPROVAL TO OPEN 3 NEW MULTI-CENTER PROJECTS IN 2011. EDUCATIONTHE 21TH ANNUAL WINTER CONFERENCE, SPONSORED BY THE CARE FOUNDATION WAS HELD ON FEBRUARY 11, 2011. OVER 150 PHYSICIANS AND OTHER HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS ATTENDED THE INFORMATIONAL LECTURES AND PRESENTATIONS COVERING TOPICS ON CARDIOVASCULAR MEDICINE AND PROCEDURES.THE CARE FOUNDATION ORGANIZES A MONTHLY JOURNAL CLUB FOR AREA HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS TO MEET TO DISCUSS RESEARCH RESULTS PUBLISHED IN PEER-REVIEWED JOURNALS.
