Since forming the partnership, students have spread out across the area to bring professional news coverage to these communities. They attend city meetings and press conferences, talking with residents, business leaders and public officials to get the full story. Dallas south news also received an 11,000 grant for the dallas foundation. The unrestricted grant was the first of its kind received by dallas south news in august, 2011, dallas south news held their third open house. As part of the open house, dsn introduced a totally revamped newsroom. The newsroom was redesigned by hilari younger who is currently a contestant on bravo channel's design star. Mrs. Younger donated her time to the project. At the open house, dallas south news also launched a print publication. Three thousand copies were printed for distribution throughout the coverage area.
