In total, all of lutheran homes society ministries provided 530,790 in charitable care in 2010 and provided an additional 3,167,263 in community benefit. These dollars include community benefit for those unreimbursed from medicaid. MARK WAGONER AND STEVE BUEHRER AND REPRESENTATIVES PETER UJVAGI, BARBARA SEARS, AND MATT SZOLLOSI. -WE LOBBIED OUR FEDERAL LEGISLATORS (SENATORS BROWN, VOINOVICH, AND CONGRESSIONAL REPRESENTATIVES KAPTUR, LATTA, AND JORDAN) DIRECTLY AND THROUGH THEIR STAFF MEMBERS WITH REGARD TO HR 4213 AS IT PERTAINS TO MEDICAID, MEDICARE, AND HOUSING. -WE LOBBIED SENATOR SHERROD BROWN AND SENATOR GEORGE VOINOVICH'S OFFICE REQUESTING THEM TO HELP MAKE SURE LONG-TERM SERVICES AND SUPPORTS ARE PART OF HEALTH CARE REFORM. -WE LOBBIED UNITED STATES CONGRESSIONAL REPRESENTATIVES KAPTUR, LATTA, AND JORDAN AND REQUESTED THAT THEY SUPPORT HR 1586 WITH THE PROVISIONS TO EXTEND THE INCREASED FEDERAL MEDICAID MATCH THROUGH JUNE 30, 2011 (COMMONLY REFERRED TO AS FMAP). HUD AND AFFORDABLE HOUSING FUNDING: RECOGNIZE AND FUND APPROPRIATE PROJECT COSTS. -IN WASHINGTON, WE WERE ABLE TO MEET WITH LEGISLATORS AND/OR THEIR AIDES, INCLUDING THE OFFICES OF SENATOR SHERROD BROWN, SENATOR GEORGE VOINOVICH, CONGRESSMAN BOB LATTA, CONGRESSMAN JIM JORDAN, AND CONGRESSWOMAN MARCY KAPTUR REGARDING THE NEED FOR AFFORDABLE HOUSING FUNDING, SPECIFICALLY HUD 202 ADDITIONAL HOUSING AND THE CONCERNS OF GOING TO A \"VOUCHER\" SYSTEM BY NOT INCLUDING ADDITIONAL CAPITAL IN THE CURRENT BUDGET. -WE PREPARED A RESPONSE TO THE U. S. DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT WITH REGARD TO THEIR NEW PROPOSAL FOR HUD 202 FUNDING. THEIR PROPOSAL IS TO FUND HUD PROJECTS DIFFERENTLY, THEREBY DECREASING CAPITAL EXPENDITURES. WE OPPOSE THIS CHANGE IN FUNDING MECHANISM BECAUSE OF THE PROBABILITY OF LACK OF FUNDING SOURCES. CONSIDERING THAT NATIONALLY, FOR EACH HUD UNIT THAT BECOMES VACANT, 10 PEOPLE ARE WAITING FOR THAT APARTMENT, THE NEED IS GREAT FOR MORE HUD HOUSING AND WE SEE THIS CHANGE IN FUNDING AS A DETRIMENT TO PROVIDING ADDITIONAL HOUSING AS THE NEED CONTINUES TO GROW. -WE LOBBIED SENATORS BROWN AND VOINOVICH AND CONGRESSIONAL REPRESENTATIVES JORDAN, KAPTUR AND LATTA WITH REGARD TO THE NATIONAL HOUSING TRUST FUND. LUTHERAN HOMES SOCIETY HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO TESTIFY ON BEHALF OF THIS FUND AT THE HOUSE FINANCIAL SERVICES COMMITTEE WHEN IT WAS FIRST INTRODUCED IN 2007. WE CONTINUE TO SUPPORT THE NATIONAL HOUSING TRUST FUND BECAUSE IT WILL PROVIDE A NEW SOURCE OF MUCH NEEDED FUNDING FOR AFFORDABLE HOUSING DEVELOPMENT. PROVIDING SERVICES IN PEOPLES HOMES, SUCH AS INDEPENDENT LIVING, SAVES MONEY BECAUSE THAT PERSON IS \"AGING IN PLACE.\" HOWEVER, THEY MUST HAVE THE HOMES TO AGE IN PLACE. THE NATIONAL HOUSING TRUST FUND WILL HELP TO PROVIDE FOR THESE FRAIL, ELDERLY TO LIVE INDEPENDENTLY. MISCELLANEOUS LOBBYING ACTIVITIES -WE LOBBIED SENATORS BROWN AND VOINOVICH WITH REGARD TO THE HEALTH CARE BILL, PARTICULARLY AS IT AFFECTS LUTHERAN HOMES SOCIETY AS AN EMPLOYER. -WE ADVOCATED ON MARK WAGONER AND STEVE BUEHRER AND REPRESENTATIVES PETER UJVAGI, BARBARA SEARS, AND MATT SZOLLOSI. -WE LOBBIED OUR FEDERAL LEGISLATORS (SENATORS BROWN, VOINOVICH, AND CONGRESSIONAL REPRESENTATIVES KAPTUR, LATTA, AND JORDAN) DIRECTLY AND THROUGH THEIR STAFF MEMBERS WITH REGARD TO HR 4213 AS IT PERTAINS TO MEDICAID, MEDICARE, AND HOUSING. -WE LOBBIED SENATOR SHERROD BROWN AND SENATOR GEORGE VOINOVICH'S OFFICE REQUESTING THEM TO HELP MAKE SURE LONG-TERM SERVICES AND SUPPORTS ARE PART OF HEALTH CARE REFORM. -WE LOBBIED UNITED STATES CONGRESSIONAL REPRESENTATIVES KAPTUR, LATTA, AND JORDAN AND REQUESTED THAT THEY SUPPORT HR 1586 WITH THE PROVISIONS TO EXTEND THE INCREASED FEDERAL MEDICAID MATCH THROUGH JUNE 30, 2011 (COMMONLY REFERRED TO AS FMAP). HUD AND AFFORDABLE HOUSING FUNDING: RECOGNIZE AND FUND APPROPRIATE PROJECT COSTS. -IN WASHINGTON, WE WERE ABLE TO MEET WITH LEGISLATORS AND/OR THEIR AIDES, INCLUDING THE OFFICES OF SENATOR SHERROD BROWN, SENATOR GEORGE VOINOVICH, CONGRESSMAN BOB LATTA, CONGRESSMAN JIM JORDAN, AND CONGRESSWOMAN MARCY KAPTUR REGARDING THE NEED FOR AFFORDABLE HOUSING FUNDING, SPECIFICALLY HUD 202 ADDITIONAL HOUSING AND THE CONCERNS OF GOING TO A \"VOUCHER\" SYSTEM BY NOT INCLUDING ADDITIONAL CAPITAL IN THE CURRENT BUDGET. -WE PREPARED A RESPONSE TO THE U. S. DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT WITH REGARD TO THEIR NEW PROPOSAL FOR HUD 202 FUNDING. THEIR PROPOSAL IS TO FUND HUD PROJECTS DIFFERENTLY, THEREBY DECREASING CAPITAL EXPENDITURES. WE OPPOSE THIS CHANGE IN FUNDING MECHANISM BECAUSE OF THE PROBABILITY OF LACK OF FUNDING SOURCES. CONSIDERING THAT NATIONALLY, FOR EACH HUD UNIT THAT BECOMES VACANT, 10 PEOPLE ARE WAITING FOR THAT APARTMENT, THE NEED IS GREAT FOR MORE HUD HOUSING AND WE SEE THIS CHANGE IN FUNDING AS A DETRIMENT TO PROVIDING ADDITIONAL HOUSING AS THE NEED CONTINUES TO GROW. -WE LOBBIED SENATORS BROWN AND VOINOVICH AND CONGRESSIONAL REPRESENTATIVES JORDAN, KAPTUR AND LATTA WITH REGARD TO THE NATIONAL HOUSING TRUST FUND. LUTHERAN HOMES SOCIETY HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO TESTIFY ON BEHALF OF THIS FUND AT THE HOUSE FINANCIAL SERVICES COMMITTEE WHEN IT WAS FIRST INTRODUCED IN 2007. WE CONTINUE TO SUPPORT THE NATIONAL HOUSING TRUST FUND BECAUSE IT WILL PROVIDE A NEW SOURCE OF MUCH NEEDED FUNDING FOR AFFORDABLE HOUSING DEVELOPMENT. PROVIDING SERVICES IN PEOPLES HOMES, SUCH AS INDEPENDENT LIVING, SAVES MONEY BECAUSE THAT PERSON IS \"AGING IN PLACE.\" HOWEVER, THEY MUST HAVE THE HOMES TO AGE IN PLACE. THE NATIONAL HOUSING TRUST FUND WILL HELP TO PROVIDE FOR THESE FRAIL, ELDERLY TO LIVE INDEPENDENTLY. MISCELLANEOUS LOBBYING ACTIVITIES -WE LOBBIED SENATORS BROWN AND VOINOVICH WITH REGARD TO THE HEALTH CARE BILL, PARTICULARLY AS IT AFFECTS LUTHERAN HOMES SOCIETY AS AN EMPLOYER. -WE ADVOCATED ON
