Social networking platformin 2010, friendfactor foundation's central technological undertaking was to build the educational components of a social networking site that was hosted at www.friendfactor.org. In 2011, friendfactor foundation continued to enhance and promote its online platform, which gave people the ability to express their support for the lgbt friends and continue spreading the message of equality. In 2011, friendfactor foundation built more educational modules for this social networking platform (the social network was a joint project of friendfactor foundation and friendfactor accelerator, a 501(c)(4) organization). One of the most popular educational modules was a q&a forum entitled \"burning questions,\" in which supporters could ask and receive honest and personalized answers about lgbt equality and their friends' lgbt experience. Friendfactor foundation also made enhancements to its freedom index and freedom map, which measured and explained the various rights that lgbt americans had in different states. Finally, friendfactor continued promoting the \"i'm here because\" campaign and video campaigns, which encouraged straight supporters to express the reasons they support lgbt equality. Nearly 10,000 supporters signed up for an engaged with these educational tools built in 2011.\n\n2. State issue educational campaignsfriendfactor foundation created a program and used its social media presence to promote awareness about several major marriage equality initiatives that happened at the state level in 2011, particularly in states like maryland, new york, and rhode island. To promote public education in new york, friendfactor launched a \"best wedding gift ever\" campaign in which straight supporters were encouraged to support their gay friends' freedom to marry in new york. The video component of this campaign received over 18,000 views. Friendfactor also launched a liberty pledge, in which over 1,000 supporters pledge to stand up for their friends in other battleground states, and over 17,000 people received email alerts letting them know which states their lgbt friends' rights were in jeopardy.\n\n3. Social media awareness campaignsfriendfactor foundation created another program to raise awareness about issues other than marriage equality that affect people's lgbt friends. With public education initiatives such as the \"what...what?!\" campaign, which raised awareness about workplace and housing discrimination against lgbt americans, friendfactor reached over 11 million potential supporters with information about lesser-known inequalities that lgbt americans face. Friendfactor also used its blog to promote equality in the workplace both with educational articles and petitions targeting specific corporate practices that were anti-lgbt. The friendfactor blog received over 500 unique visits a month and our most successful online petition - which called for the ceo of sizzler to address an anti-gay incident that happened at one of its restaurant locations - was backed by over 3,000 supporters.\n\nOn which friends could learn about their lgbt (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) friends' inequities and show their support in eliminating such inequities. Friendfactor made improvements to the educational tools on the platform, such as updating and enhancing the freedom index map, and built a new module entitled \"burning questions,\" in which supporters could ask and answer questions about lgbt issues that they were uncomfortable asking in other forums. Several thousands of supporters signed up for this platform and participated in the online educational activities, both as consumers and contributors to the content. Later in the year, friendfactor foundation launched online public education campaigns for three states that were engaged in marriage equality initiatives - maryland, rhode island, and new york. Our work to promote information about the importance of the freedom to marry and supporting gay friends reached tens of thousands of people across the country. Friendfactor foundation also launched other broader awareness campaigns on issues other than marriage through social media campaigns, like the \"what...what?\" twitter campaign, the organization's blog, and petitions to corporations, which were hosted on change.org. These campaigns were aimed at raising awareness about issues such as discrimination in the workplace, bullying statistics, and other forms of mistreatment of lgbt people. Taken together, these activities helped hundreds of thousands of straight and lgbt supporters become more aware of lgbt inequalities and become more committed to making a meaningful difference to promote equality for and eliminate prejudice against their lgbt friends.","year":2011,"name":"FRIENDFACTOR FOUNDATION","phone":"6467895825","website":"WWW.FRIENDFACTOR.ORG","type":"990","principal_officer":"BRIAN ELLIOT","year_formation":2009,"state_legal_domicile":"DC","total_volunteers":17,"tax_period_begin":"2011-01-01T00:00:00","tax_period_end":"2011-12-31T00:00:00","address":"PO BOX 40833, SAN FRANCISCO, CA, 94140, USA","city":"SAN FRANCISCO","state":"CA","country":"USA","zip_code":"94140"},"Governance":{"501c3 determination":true,"Number of voting members":10,"Number of independent voting members":8,"Number of employees total":9,"Total Gross UBI":0,"Net unrelated business taxable income":0,"Number of employees":9,"Prohibited tax shelter transactions":false,"Taxable party notification":false,"Funds to pay premiums":false,"Premiums Paid":false,"Family or business relationship":false,"Delegation of management duties":false,"Conflict of interest policy":true,"Whistle blower policy":false,"Compensation process for CEO":true,"Compensation process for other employees":false,"Changes to organizing documents":false,"Material diversion or misuse":false,"Members or stockholders":false,"Election of board members":false,"Decisions subject to approval":false,"Minutes of governing body":true,"Local chapters":false,"Form 990 provided to governing body":true,"Document retention policy":false,"Investment in joint venture":false,"Independent audit financial statements":true,"Consolidated audit financial statements":false,"Accountant compile or review":false,"Financial statements audited by independent accountant":true,"Audit committee":true,"Federal grant audit required":false,"Political activities":false,"Donor advised funds":false,"Conservation easements":false,"Collections of art":false,"School":false,"Hospital":false,"Foreign activities":false,"Foreign office":false,"Gaming":false,"Fundraising activities":true,"Professional fundraising":true,"Loan to officer or DQP":false,"Grant to related person":false,"Business relationship through family member":false,"Business relationship with organization":false,"Transfers to exempt non-charitable organization":true},"Revenues":{"value":299000,"Contributions":{"value":302178,"Other contributions":227148,"Fundraising revenue":75030},"Program revenue":{"value":0,"Unrelated business revenue":0},"Investment income":{"value":0},"Other revenues":{"value":-3178,"Net income from fundraising events":-3178}},"Expenses":{"value":482522,"Grant expense":{"value":0},"Total professional fundraising expense":{"value":21025,"Fundraising professional":21025},"Benefits paid to members":{"value":0},"Salaries":{"value":322258,"Current officers":166954,"Other salaries and wages":111331,"Other employee benefits":21062,"Payroll taxes":22911},"Other expenses":{"value":139239,"Accounting":16818,"Other services":13322,"Advertising":1850,"Office expenses":12890,"Information technology":66659,"Occupancy":11575,"Travel":5645,"Conferences and meetings":6550,"Insurance":2506,"Itemized Expenses":1424}},"Assets":{"value":78060,"Non-interest bearing cash":74160,"Pledges and grants receivable":800,"Other assets":3100},"Liabilities":{"value":8382,"Accounts payable, accrued":8382,"Other liabilities":0},"Fund balance":{"value":69678},"Form990Details":{"program_service_accomplishments":[{"description":"1.
