Gcep is a partnership of the los angeles urban league, a 90-year-old civil rights organization devoted to leadership, advocacy, and neighborhood transformation; usc rossier school of education, a top-tier private research university, and the tom & ethel bradley foundation, a community-based organization dedicated to community advocacy and leadership development.since 1999, crenshaw high school has faced its share of challenges. A chronically low-performing school, it has suffered from a culture of low expectations and poor academic performance, characterized by low test scores, high teacher turnover, low attendance, and high suspension rates. In 2005, crenshaw high school lost its accreditation for its certification that it was an institution worthy of providing instructional programs. Additionally, crenshaw high school has the highest proportion of nontraditional out-of-home and foster care placements in the city, one of the highest percentages of special education students with learning differences, and a sizable student population experiencing socio-emotional challenges.the partnership was created to transform the outcomes at crenshaw high school and its feeder schools and provides governance, guidance and resources to community feeder elementary and middle schools. It has leveraged resources from the founding partners as well as from other community, university and corporate partners. The partnership has also gained support from usc interns from the master's of social work program, providing services on the crenshaw campus. The partnership has secured collaboration from starbucks, ups and others to provide internships, mentoring, volunteer resources and educational programming. Professional development resources have been provided by the usc rossier school of education and \"intentional civility\" or citizenship/leadership training has been provided to students by the tom and ethel bradley foundation. In partnership with the la urban league, gcep has supported algebra tutoring, the fire academy vocational career training, college readiness, and other academic and cocurricular programming. As part of the idesign division of lausd, gcep serves as the network partner for crenshaw high school. As network partner, having entered into a memorandum of understanding with lausd, gcep provides governance and resources to the school and is responsible for overseeing and guiding the school in its reform efforts. The three founding partners also leverage their own resources - as well as the resources from other community partners - to transform educational outcomes at crenshaw high school.accomplishments and activities2011/2012:-successfully applied for state school improvement grant to continue professional development.-developed a comprehensive process to facilitate the search, recruitment and selection of new crenshaw hs principal (for 2012/2013 school year).-expanded resources for counseling services and socio-emotional support for students via volunteers from usc school of social work.-secured renowned education administrator dr. P.
