THE PROCESS SAW TWO SEPARATE MERGERS CULMINATING IN A FINAL ACQUISITION/MERGER IN MAY OF 2008 WITH EXCELA HEALTH SYSTEMS. AFTER THE MERCY JEANNETTE HOSPITAL MERGER, THE FOUNDATION CONTINUED IN OPERATION UNTIL IT DETERMINED WHAT ROLE, IF ANY, IT WOULD PLAY IN THE NEW HEALTH SYSTEM. LEGAL ISSUES SURFACED REGARDING THE POSSIBLE MERGER BETWEEN THE TWO FOUNDATIONS AND BETWEEN THE MERCY JEANNETTE HOSPITAL FOUNDATION AND ITS PREVIOUS PARENT'S CHARITABLE FOUNDATION. DURING 2009, THE JEANNETTE DISTRICT MEMORIAL FOUNDATION WAS REQUIRED TO DISTRIBUTE HALF OF ITS ASSETS TO ITS PREVIOUS PARENT'S RELATED FOUNDATION. THE HOSPITAL WAS SUBSEQUENTLY CLOSED IN END OF 2010/BEGINNING OF 2011. THE GOVERNING BOARD DECIDED, AFTER CAREFUL DELIBERATION AND DISCUSSION, TO WIND DOWN OPERATIONS AND SEEK ANOTHER 501(C)(3) ORGANIZATIONS TO CONTRIBUTE ITS ASSETS TO. THE PROCESS SAW TWO SEPARATE MERGERS CULMINATING IN A FINAL ACQUISITION/MERGER IN MAY OF 2008 WITH EXCELA HEALTH SYSTEMS. AFTER THE MERCY JEANNETTE HOSPITAL MERGER, THE FOUNDATION CONTINUED IN OPERATION UNTIL IT DETERMINED WHAT ROLE, IF ANY, IT WOULD PLAY IN THE NEW HEALTH SYSTEM. LEGAL ISSUES SURFACED REGARDING THE POSSIBLE MERGER BETWEEN THE TWO FOUNDATIONS AND BETWEEN THE MERCY JEANNETTE HOSPITAL FOUNDATION AND ITS PREVIOUS PARENT'S CHARITABLE FOUNDATION. DURING 2009, THE JEANNETTE DISTRICT MEMORIAL FOUNDATION WAS REQUIRED TO DISTRIBUTE HALF OF ITS ASSETS TO ITS PREVIOUS PARENT'S RELATED FOUNDATION. THE HOSPITAL WAS SUBSEQUENTLY CLOSED IN END OF 2010/BEGINNING OF 2011.
