The organization also has an extensive continuum of prevention services including conflict resolution and mediation (which designates the organization as comprehensive community mediation center), community education, outreach, and training.","primary_activities":"Advocacy program: violence and crime impacts individual victims and witnesses, family, neighbors, and friends in a variety of ways. Cvvc's advocacy program assists those impacted by all forms of violence and crime including but not limited to: adult and child sexual assault, physical assault, child and elder abuse, homicide, robbery, and burglary. Counselor advocates, dedicated to the many needs of victims and witnesses provide support and intervention services for individuals impacted by both adult and juvenile offenders. Counselor advocates help to protect and educate on victims' rights, as legislated in pennsylvania, and provide information and supportive counseling, crisis intervention, court orientation and accompaniment, and medical advocacy. Court orientation and accompaniment is designed to give victims and witnesses someone to answer their questions, address their fears, and walk them through the court process. Waiting for the justice system to work can be very arduous for victims because the process is lengthy, confusing and often delayed. Advocates attend court and legal proceedings from the first hearing through the sentencing, or disposition of the offender. Advocates help victims through the experience by protecting their rights, explaining the legal system and its procedures, and providing a source of comfort and support. In addition, if victims need medical attention following an incident of violence, cvvc provides medical advocacy and accompaniment to assist the victim through medical procedures and assess their future needs for services. Furthermore, cvvc provides crisis intervention through its advocacy program. When someone has been victimized and therefore exposed to trauma, one's sense of safety and well-being may be shattered. Cvvc believes that early outreach, intervention, and crisis counseling can successfully lessen the short and long- term impacts of trauma. Advocates provide information about the impacts of trauma and allow individuals to tell their story. Through this support, stress and anxiety can be reduced empowering the individual to cope with future challenges.\n\nVictim witness program: the victim witness program is responsible for several crime victim and witness services including victim compensation assistance, county jail and state prison offender release notification, and cvvc's 24 hour helpline. Offender release notification and victim compensation assistance are mandated by pennsylvania's crime victims act while the helpline serves as the gateway to all of cvvc's programs and services. Cvvc's 24 hour helpline offers round-the-clock assistance and information by knowledgeable professionals who provide immediate help and guidance. When violence or crime, directly or indirectly touches an individual or community, early intervention is essential to lessen the effects of trauma. Helpline staff provides crisis intervention, emotional support, safety planning, and information and referrals to address these impacts. Cvvc's helpline is critical, as often, victims and witnesses have emergency needs and questions which require immediate assistance. Types of calls vary but range from someone seeking shelter and protection from abuse to someone coping with the anniversary of the death of a loved one. Callers often raise questions related to victim's rights and the steps or procedures in the criminal or juvenile justice systems. Questions such as: \"my child was sexually assaulted. Will she have to testify?\" callers contact the helpline with concerns about having trouble sleeping, anxiety, or fears for their safety. Furthermore, callers who utilize the helpline often have a lack of a support system and/or only feel comfortable disclosing their victimization to an anonymous helpline. Furthermore, cvvc's helpline is an avenue to provide one of the agency's other essential services which operates 24 hours per day, 7 days per week -offender release notification. Offender release notification is a right provided to eligible crime victims under pennsylvania law. Cvvc provides the county jail offender release notification service on behalf of the allegheny county jail; a partnership for the past 15 years. This program provides services to over 1,000 victims, witnesses, and family members and provides an average of 500 offender release notifications per year. After an interested victim contacts cvvc, staff tracks the current status of the offender and registers the victim. When a release or escape occurs with an offender, the allegheny county jail contacts cvvc which then informs the victim. Cvvc also assists victims in maneuvering a new state mandated automated notification system called savin (statewide automated victim information and notification) by helping with registration and providing follow-up in the event of a release. Finally, cvvc also assists victims in registering for release notification services when the offender is serving time in a state or federal facility, or when a juvenile is placed in a facility for juvenile offenders. Release notifications often include very critical one to one conversations that address safety planning and incorporate crisis counseling. This component is essential to cvvc's notification service as many victims are in fear for their wellbeing and need to make safety plans. Notification of releases often leads to victims reliving the incident and may initiate a crisis. Knowing that an offender is still incarcerated or knowing of a release, is such powerful information for a victim. That information will lead them to make day to day decisions impacting their safety - it can mean sleeping soundly knowing that they are safe or it can mean using this information to make quick and certain decisions to ensure their safety. Finally, cvvc's victim witness program provides victim compensation assistance, which has a goal of lessening the financial hardship a victim experiences because of crime. While no amount of money is enough to erase the emotional and physical devastation that crime will cause, the pennsylvania victim compensation assistance program, a division of the pennsylvania commission on crime and delinquency, assists victims and their families through such crisis by easing their financial burden. Cvvc assists victims by completing a thorough assessment of eligibility, explaining details of covered expenses, and assisting in filing a claim. In allegheny county, cvvc is the designated victim assistance agency to file compensation claims on behalf of victims.\n\nConflict resolution, mediation, training and education program: through community based education, outreach, peace building efforts, and arts and media programming, cvvc informs individuals, the community, and professionals on the root causes of violence as well as prevention and wellness strategies. Cvvc provides vital information, tools, and resources to facilitate violence prevention, and public and personal safety -increasing awareness about victimization and the impacts of violence and crime. Cvvc hosts the annual \"peace partner\" awards ceremony and reception through its peace it together community initiative. Educational presentations are adaptable for any group ranging from pre-school age through seniors and everyone in between. Presentations address a variety of issues including cvvc services and victim's rights, sexual assault awareness and prevention, impacts of violence and crime, personal safety planning and safety skills for children, seniors, and people with disabilities, conflict resolution and wellness strategies. Furthermore, cvvc provides extensive training to allied professionals and the community. The curriculum educates on the root causes and impact of violence, crime, and unresolved conflict. Cvvc training programs provide instruction on best practice principles for effective response to trauma, conflict resolution, and mediation. Teaching and facilitating effective non-violent ways to resolve disputes creates opportunities for healthy and productive dialogue. Recognizing trauma and learning effective intervention contributes to helping individuals, families, and communities heal from the harm caused by all forms of violence. Cvvc tailors trainings to meet unique needs of a particular audience. Specific topics include: conflict resolution, mediation, and trauma informed care. Conflict resolution training assists individuals in becoming proficient at using a variety of tools for managing conflict and engaging others in constructive conversations. Mediation training assists participants in using a party-centered mediation model to facilitate communication among parties while supporting them through decision making. Trauma informed care training assists participants in understanding crisis reactions and the unique needs of victims of violence and crime and teaches trauma specific interventions. Cvvc also provides conflict resolution, dialogue and mediation services to hundreds of area residents and community groups seeking to resolve conflict peacefully. It also facilitates dialogues between victims and their offenders as requested through its restorative justice programs and victim offender dialogue program.","year":2010,"name":"THE CENTER FOR VICTIMS OF VIOLENCE AND CRIME","phone":"4124823240","website":"WWW.CVVC.ORG","type":"990","principal_officer":"TRACEY PROVIDENT","year_formation":1975,"state_legal_domicile":"PA","total_volunteers":70,"tax_period_begin":"2010-07-01T00:00:00","tax_period_end":"2011-06-30T00:00:00","address":"5916 PENN AVENUE, PITTSBURGH, PA, 15206, USA","city":"PITTSBURGH","state":"PA","country":"USA","zip_code":"15206"},"Governance":{"501c3 determination":true,"Number of voting members":19,"Number of independent voting members":19,"Number of employees total":42,"Total Gross UBI":0,"Net unrelated business taxable income":0,"Number of employees":42,"Prohibited tax shelter transactions":false,"Taxable party notification":false,"Funds to pay premiums":false,"Premiums Paid":false,"Family or business relationship":false,"Delegation of management duties":false,"Conflict of interest policy":true,"Whistle blower policy":true,"Compensation process for CEO":true,"Compensation process for other employees":false,"Changes to organizing documents":true,"Material diversion or misuse":false,"Members or stockholders":false,"Election of board members":false,"Decisions subject to approval":false,"Minutes of governing body":true,"Local chapters":false,"Form 990 provided to governing body":true,"Document retention policy":true,"Investment in joint venture":false,"Independent audit financial statements":true,"Consolidated audit financial statements":false,"Accountant compile or review":false,"Financial statements audited by independent accountant":true,"Audit committee":true,"Federal grant audit required":true,"Federal grant audit performed":true,"Political activities":false,"Donor advised funds":false,"Conservation easements":false,"Collections of art":false,"School":false,"Hospital":false,"Foreign activities":false,"Foreign office":false,"Gaming":false,"Fundraising activities":true,"Professional fundraising":true,"Loan to officer or DQP":false,"Grant to related person":false,"Business relationship through family member":false,"Business relationship with organization":true,"Transfers to exempt non-charitable organization":false},"Revenues":{"value":2458720,"Contributions":{"value":2368956,"Other contributions":235806,"Fundraising revenue":32605,"Campaigns":11406,"Grant revenue":2089139},"Program revenue":{"value":38660,"Total revenue":38660,"Unrelated business revenue":0},"Investment income":{"value":601,"Investment income total":601},"Other revenues":{"value":50503,"Other total":44970,"Net income from fundraising events":5533}},"Expenses":{"value":2474023,"Grant expense":{"value":0},"Total professional fundraising expense":{"value":25600,"Fundraising professional":25600},"Benefits paid to members":{"value":0},"Salaries":{"value":1858357,"Current officers":153651,"Other salaries and wages":1296061,"Pension plan contributions":57554,"Other employee benefits":193198,"Payroll taxes":157893},"Other expenses":{"value":590066,"Accounting":14800,"Other services":155021,"Office expenses":13542,"Occupancy":224187,"Travel":14308,"Depreciation and depletion":29122,"Itemized Expenses":{"value":139086,"VARIOUS":139086}}},"Assets":{"value":514236,"Non-interest bearing cash":11379,"Savings and temp cash investments":2424,"Pledges and grants receivable":332651,"Prepaid expenses deferred charges":39076,"Land, building, equipment":111177,"Investments publicly traded":17529},"Liabilities":{"value":284705,"Accounts payable, accrued":141642,"Unsecured notes loans payable":50000,"Other liabilities":93063},"Fund balance":{"value":229531},"Form990Details":{"program_service_accomplishments":[{"description":"ADVOCACY PROGRAM: VIOLENCE AND CRIME IMPACTS INDIVIDUAL VICTIMS AND WITNESSES, FAMILY, NEIGHBORS, AND FRIENDS IN A VARIETY OF WAYS. Cvvc provides the county jail offender release notification service on behalf of the allegheny county jail; a partnership for the past 16 years. Furthermore, cvvc provides extensive training to allied professionals, businesses, and the community. Cvvc training programs provide instruction on best practice principles for effective response to trauma, conflict competency, and mediation. Specific topics include: conflict resolution and competency, mediation, and trauma informed care. Cvvc also provides conflict resolution, dialogue and mediation services to hundreds of area residents , community groups, and organizations seeking to resolve conflict peacefully. It also facilitates dialogues between victims and their offenders as requested through its restorative justice programs and victim offender dialogue program.","year":2011,"name":"THE CENTER FOR VICTIMS OF VIOLENCE AND CRIME","phone":"4124823240","website":"WWW.CENTERFORVICTIMS.ORG","type":"990","principal_officer":"TRACEY PROVIDENT","year_formation":1975,"state_legal_domicile":"PA","total_volunteers":70,"tax_period_begin":"2011-07-01T00:00:00","tax_period_end":"2012-06-30T00:00:00","address":"5916 PENN AVENUE, PITTSBURGH, PA, 15206, USA","city":"PITTSBURGH","state":"PA","country":"USA","zip_code":"15206"},"Governance":{"501c3 determination":true,"Number of voting members":18,"Number of independent voting members":18,"Number of employees total":38,"Total Gross UBI":0,"Net unrelated business taxable income":0,"Number of employees":38,"Prohibited tax shelter transactions":false,"Taxable party notification":false,"Funds to pay premiums":false,"Premiums Paid":false,"Family or business relationship":false,"Delegation of management duties":false,"Conflict of interest policy":true,"Whistle blower policy":true,"Compensation process for CEO":true,"Compensation process for other employees":false,"Changes to organizing documents":true,"Material diversion or misuse":false,"Members or stockholders":false,"Election of board members":false,"Decisions subject to approval":false,"Minutes of governing body":true,"Local chapters":false,"Form 990 provided to governing body":true,"Document retention policy":true,"Investment in joint venture":false,"Independent audit financial statements":true,"Consolidated audit financial statements":false,"Accountant compile or review":false,"Financial statements audited by independent accountant":true,"Audit committee":true,"Federal grant audit required":true,"Federal grant audit performed":true,"Political activities":false,"Donor advised funds":false,"Conservation easements":false,"Collections of art":false,"School":false,"Hospital":false,"Foreign activities":false,"Foreign office":false,"Gaming":false,"Fundraising activities":true,"Professional fundraising":true,"Loan to officer or DQP":false,"Grant to related person":false,"Business relationship through family member":false,"Business relationship with organization":true,"Transfers to exempt non-charitable organization":false},"Revenues":{"value":2228450,"Contributions":{"value":2172413,"Other contributions":224096,"Fundraising revenue":34744,"Campaigns":13519,"Grant revenue":1900054},"Program revenue":{"value":55685,"Total revenue":55685,"Unrelated business revenue":0},"Investment income":{"value":637,"Investment income total":637},"Other revenues":{"value":-285,"Other total":2865,"Net income from fundraising events":-3150}},"Expenses":{"value":2239792,"Grant expense":{"value":0},"Total professional fundraising expense":{"value":20800,"Fundraising professional":20800},"Benefits paid to members":{"value":0},"Salaries":{"value":1636767,"Current officers":96612,"Other salaries and wages":1219787,"Pension plan contributions":49128,"Other employee benefits":164557,"Payroll taxes":106683},"Other expenses":{"value":582225,"Accounting":15310,"Other services":169038,"Office expenses":7675,"Occupancy":227335,"Travel":11392,"Conferences and meetings":20284,"Depreciation and depletion":29534,"Itemized Expenses":{"value":101657,"VARIOUS":101657}}},"Assets":{"value":498034,"Non-interest bearing cash":53247,"Savings and temp cash investments":3056,"Pledges and grants receivable":306709,"Accounts receivable":29565,"Prepaid expenses deferred charges":2173,"Land, building, equipment":85393,"Investments publicly traded":17891},"Liabilities":{"value":279483,"Accounts payable, accrued":138530,"Unsecured notes loans payable":50000,"Other liabilities":90953},"Fund balance":{"value":218551},"Form990Details":{"program_service_accomplishments":[{"description":"ADVOCACY PROGRAM: VIOLENCE AND CRIME IMPACTS INDIVIDUAL VICTIMS AND WITNESSES, FAMILY, NEIGHBORS, AND FRIENDS IN A VARIETY OF WAYS. Cvvc provides the county jail offender release notification service on behalf of the allegheny county jail; a partnership for the past 16 years. Furthermore, cvvc provides extensive training to allied professionals, businesses, and the community. Cvvc training programs provide instruction on best practice principles for effective response to trauma, conflict competency, and mediation. Specific topics include: conflict resolution and competency, mediation, and trauma informed care. Cvvc also provides conflict resolution, dialogue and mediation services to hundreds of area residents , community groups, and organizations seeking to resolve conflict peacefully. It also facilitates dialogues between victims and their offenders as requested through its restorative justice programs and victim offender dialogue program.","year":2011,"name":"THE CENTER FOR VICTIMS OF VIOLENCE AND CRIME","phone":"4124823240","website":"WWW.CENTERFORVICTIMS.ORG","type":"990","principal_officer":"TRACEY PROVIDENT","year_formation":1975,"state_legal_domicile":"PA","total_volunteers":70,"tax_period_begin":"2011-07-01T00:00:00","tax_period_end":"2012-06-30T00:00:00","address":"5916 PENN AVENUE, PITTSBURGH, PA, 15206, USA","city":"PITTSBURGH","state":"PA","country":"USA","zip_code":"15206"},"Governance":{"501c3 determination":true,"Number of voting members":18,"Number of independent voting members":18,"Number of employees total":38,"Total Gross UBI":0,"Net unrelated business taxable income":0,"Number of employees":38,"Prohibited tax shelter transactions":false,"Taxable party notification":false,"Funds to pay premiums":false,"Premiums Paid":false,"Family or business relationship":false,"Delegation of management duties":false,"Conflict of interest policy":true,"Whistle blower policy":true,"Compensation process for CEO":true,"Compensation process for other employees":false,"Changes to organizing documents":true,"Material diversion or misuse":false,"Members or stockholders":false,"Election of board members":false,"Decisions subject to approval":false,"Minutes of governing body":true,"Local chapters":false,"Form 990 provided to governing body":true,"Document retention policy":true,"Investment in joint venture":false,"Independent audit financial statements":true,"Consolidated audit financial statements":false,"Accountant compile or review":false,"Financial statements audited by independent accountant":true,"Audit committee":true,"Federal grant audit required":true,"Federal grant audit performed":true,"Political activities":false,"Donor advised funds":false,"Conservation easements":false,"Collections of art":false,"School":false,"Hospital":false,"Foreign activities":false,"Foreign office":false,"Gaming":false,"Fundraising activities":true,"Professional fundraising":true,"Loan to officer or DQP":false,"Grant to related person":false,"Business relationship through family member":false,"Business relationship with organization":true,"Transfers to exempt non-charitable organization":false},"Revenues":{"value":2228450,"Contributions":{"value":2172413,"Other contributions":224096,"Fundraising revenue":34744,"Campaigns":13519,"Grant revenue":1900054},"Program revenue":{"value":55685,"Total revenue":55685,"Unrelated business revenue":0},"Investment income":{"value":637,"Investment income total":637},"Other revenues":{"value":-285,"Other total":2865,"Net income from fundraising events":-3150}},"Expenses":{"value":2239792,"Grant expense":{"value":0},"Total professional fundraising expense":{"value":20800,"Fundraising professional":20800},"Benefits paid to members":{"value":0},"Salaries":{"value":1636767,"Current officers":96612,"Other salaries and wages":1219787,"Pension plan contributions":49128,"Other employee benefits":164557,"Payroll taxes":106683},"Other expenses":{"value":582225,"Accounting":15310,"Other services":169038,"Office expenses":7675,"Occupancy":227335,"Travel":11392,"Conferences and meetings":20284,"Depreciation and depletion":29534,"Itemized Expenses":{"value":101657,"VARIOUS":101657}}},"Assets":{"value":498034,"Non-interest bearing cash":53247,"Savings and temp cash investments":3056,"Pledges and grants receivable":306709,"Accounts receivable":29565,"Prepaid expenses deferred charges":2173,"Land, building, equipment":85393,"Investments publicly traded":17891},"Liabilities":{"value":279483,"Accounts payable, accrued":138530,"Unsecured notes loans payable":50000,"Other liabilities":90953},"Fund balance":{"value":218551},"Form990Details":{"program_service_accomplishments":[{"description":"ADVOCACY PROGRAM: VIOLENCE AND CRIME IMPACTS INDIVIDUAL VICTIMS AND WITNESSES, FAMILY, NEIGHBORS, AND FRIENDS IN A VARIETY OF WAYS.
