responsibility collaborations with like-minded organizations continue to provide added benefits to the community. somerset hills ymca engages with a broad array of community stakeholders to maximize the well-being of the residents. in 2014, we partnered with many non-profit and government organizations in a spirit of cooperation and collaboration to optimize resources that achieve greater outcomes. some of these organizations include bethel ridge, inc., our house, inc., veterans administration, and rotary club among others. somerset hills ymca continually seeks to cultivate relationships that strengthen our volunteer base. in 2014, over 1,000 individuals volunteered at our ymca for a total of 26,640 volunteer hours. at an estimated worth of $21.00 for each hour of service they provide, their contributions would equate to a value of $559,440. we honored and recognized many of the outstanding volunteers for their high level of service to the y at our annual spirit awards dinner. additionally, we launched a new volunteer initiative, togetherhood, in which the y recruits volunteers for local projects that address community needs. in the first year, we had 148 volunteers contribute their time and talent to give back to their community. to support adults with special needs, our y offers the achievers program three days a week. designed for adults with special needs, the program teaches employment skills, such as communications and personal interaction, with an end goal of better preparing the participants for employment and job retention. in 2014, the program had 10 participants. we reached thousands of community members through enriching, annual events such as healthy kids day, international family festival, golf classic, volunteer recognition night, and support of the flag day 5k run for homeless veterans, etc. these events add value to the community and offer an opportunity for everyone to experience much of what the y has to offer. our y is committed to supporting the community through our programs and services. in 2014, we provided free use of our facility to a wide variety of community-based organizations such as schools, houses of worship, business and service organizations, youth sport organizations and other not-for-profits for meetings, educational presentations, special events and recreation. one example is our partnership with montgomery academy, which is a school for children, ages 5 - 21, who experience social, emotional and educational challenges. since they do not have space at their school for physical education, the y offers weekly use our gymnasium and pools to the teachers and students so they can include physical education as part of their curriculum. our commitment is to be an asset to our community
